No, it isn't. Cobain wrote some great lyrics (Heart Shaped Box for one), but he never considered himself a 'wordsmith'. He wasn't a great lyricist. He did write some great lyrics. The two are not the same.

Pointless and bizarre, even by NME poll standards.

Start it again? I wasn't aware it had ever stopped. I disagree comparing them is pointless either. One is OK, the other is quite good.

Do you really think you're going to get both to the top? Picking one might be, y'know, productive...

Richey's good, but he's not even the best lyricist from South Wales (Andy Falkous, for da record).

Richey's are just bleak but if you think that makes him the "greatest" then fine....

I know, it had never stopped but we kinda must be united facing the problem of ignorance emo-forums. have they ever heard of Morrissey? it sounds like another reality tv show.
I understand that if whole FD voted one Manic, it would give some results but disappreciating one of them just kills something inside of me. besides sooner or after emo fans muster more and beat everybody and take away the victory.
organic work would be needed but I don't have time to enlighten others.

well, I know he wrote lyrics (of course) and I love many of the lyrics esp. Drain You, Been a son, All apologise etc. but I just consider a competition for 'greatest lyricist' should be most of all for ppl who lives and breathes lyrics, not *music*. you know what I mean? but hey, rather Kurt than MCR or Muse!

Totally, totally agree with you and have to add Richey to your list.
