Although saying that there's not really a bad melody on Lifeblood, unlike TIMT and KYE. And 1985 and SSI are up there with their best.

Anyone whose opinion on the Manics differs from mine is wrong.

I used to have a friend (well until I saw through him) and he wanted the Manics to split in 1994. His main reason was a girl who lived in a squat with him committed suicide after Richey left, so he thought them carrying on was an insult to her. Despite the problem of never actually meeting her!
I'd like to thank this thread for reminding me of that. |

They stopped trying to imitate their idols after the second album. The Holy Bible was the starting point of their creative peak and kept up the pace until after Lifeblood when they got bored of being creative and tried to re-create the success of EMG. Then they went and made the same mistake again with Postcards only forgetting to write any good songs this time round. Journals was a fluke, although it sounds like they had that album written around the time of KYE as it was sandwiched between two average to depressingly poor albums.
There is time for redemption yet, the next one has to be a sequel of sorts to Lifeblood and be brave with the music. |
