Manic Street Preacher Nicky Wire is set to publish a candid book of his time in the top rock band.

The Blackwood guitarist, 42, has landed a publishing deal with Faber and Faber to produce Death Of A Polaroid: A Manics Family Album.

And Nicky, a keen poet , said he is massively excited to put together a candid history of the band.

He said: "The first book with Faber and Faber is going to be a family album of the Manic Street Preachers. I've got a collection of about 2,000 to 3,000 Polaroids from the last 20 to 25 years and it really is quite a humane collection.

"It's very self-explanatory as you see the unfolding and unravelling of four kids who kind of grew up in a bedroom, dreaming of taking over the world. I hope it'll be really engaging and really tactile."

And Nicky said he'd always found the Polaroid a great way of recording events.

He said: "I guess from an artistic view, the reasons I love Polaroid so much is its simplicity. I'm not a technical photographer and I wouldn't describe myself as a photographer but the instantaneous beauty of a Polaroid is perfect for the medium of cataloguing a rock and roll band.

"The amount of travelling you'll see in the book from Blackwood to Tokyo and back is pretty amazing.

"The genius of Polaroid is you can pinpoint a memory really easily.

"And our fans are just as dedicated as we are in that sense so I think they'll just look at the book and they'll associate the memory with it as well, because they are so dedicated.

"In the book there are just so many candid pictures of the four of us together. The bond you can see in a Polaroid, there's a lot of truth in them."

Nicky said he is thrilled to be signed to Faber and Faber, who also published the works of one of his favourite poets, Phillip Larkin.

He said: "The label we signed for 20 years ago, Columbia, is a pretty special record label.

"And I feel pretty lucky to be on Faber and Faber as well.

"I became obsessed with Larkin and the banality of his life, even though he was quiet extraordinary."
