The mysterious disappearance of Richey James, the tormented lead singer of England's Manic Street Preachers, remains unsolved as of press time. James, who had recently been released from a mental hospital, disappeared in February the day before the band was to start on a U.S. promotional tour for their latest and most successful album. Holy Bible. Appeals for information on the singer's whereabouts have been cast in British newspapers, television, and radio, but police have no clues. James's well-publicized psychological problems - anorexia, self-mutilation, alcoholism, drug addiction, and suicide attempts - have led fans to expect the worst. The British music press has even started to call James "the English' Kurt Cobain."
