42. Nicky Wire - Manic Street Preachers

It, not easy being a 42-year-old firebrand. Anyone would forgive Nicky Wire for keeping his mouth shut now. But he just can't. A lot of what he says these days has a melancholy feel - he's convinced rock music is at a low ebb, and sees little hope for its future. But would you rather hear him banging the drum for Bombay Bicycle Club? No, Wire is a fighter, and that's the way we like it. He's one of pop's great theorists, and there are few things more enthralling than the Manics man in the throes of an excoriating rant. Long may he rage.
