Manic Street Preachers guitarist Richey Edwards has been booked into a private clinic to be treated for "nervous exhaustion".

The Manics had to play their Strathclyde T in The Park festival appearance on Saturday without Richey.

It is well known that the guitarist has suffered from depression in the past and has mutilated himself on occasions, though there was neither confirmation nor denial from band spokespeople that his hospitalisation was the result of a suicide attempt. The band's PR also stressed that despite rumours that all is not well within the band, none of its members, including Richey, are about to quit.

The Manics’ new album, 'The Holy Bible', is due for release this month.
