Manic Street Preacher and Swansea alumnus Nicky Wire was recently made an Honorary Fellow of the University.

Before he was conferred with the honour, he took a few moments to answer our questions.

Q What is your most abiding memory of Swansea University ? A Happy-Lonely-Having a full grant. Nice room. Great books. Great friends.

Q What do you think is the most significant thing that happened to you while studying here ? A Studying the Spanish Civil War, which would later help me write 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next'.

Q Do you think your time here had an influence upon your music ? A Yes. I found solitude in the landscape and learning. It gave me focus.

Q How would you describe Swansea to a stranger who asked you about the city ? A Swansea has a soul.

Q Which is the best live band you've ever seen ? A Marilyn Manson or Sonic Youth.

Q What is the meaning of life ? A Whatever you want it to be: 'All our knowledge - past, present & future - is nothing compared to what we will never know' - E. Tsiolkovsky (1837 '1935) pioneer of astronautics.
