Title: Manics Promise New Direction
Publication: NME.com
Date: Tuesday 4th April 2000

The Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield has revealed that the band are contemplating a radical shift in image and musical direction when they return with their new album in 2001.

Bradfield was talking exclusively on the NME.com Manic Street Preachers Microsite about his plans for the sixth Manics album.

He said: “The next album will be our sixth. We feel like we need to start thinking on a different level. I don’t mean in terms of volume, or size of everything, we just feel as if we’ve got to move things on and try to become another version of ourselves.”

Bradfield also gave credibility to the rumours that the Manics may disband following the release of their new album, saying “It feels like a very good way to peak.”

Bassist Nicky Wire added that he wanted to get recording of the album “out of the way so we can move on to something else”. He continued, “it’s just something that needs to be done.”

The Manics originally sparked rumours they would disband following the release of their sixth album last October, when at a press conference, Bradfield revealed that he didn’t still want to be in the band when he was 40.

The Manics microsite features exclusive video interviews, photographs and video clips from their performance at Cardiff‘s Millennium Stadium on Millennium Eve. Also on the site is a review archive of past album and live reviews from the NME.

The band also release a full-length video of the Cardiff show, titled ‘Leaving The 20th Century (The Incomplete Work Of The Manic Street Preachers)’ on April 10 through Sony Video. The DVD with extra features is released on May 1.
