Are The Manic Street Preachers about to split up? It looks like it - if lead singer James Dean Bradfield, left, is to be believed.
He revealed that the group are planning a millennium makeover with a radical new image and change of musical direction. The Manics won't release a new CD until 2001, but it could be their last.
Said James cryptically: "We feel we've got to move things on and try to become another version of ourselves. It feels like a very good way to peak."
Last year, Bradfield shocked fans when he said he didn't want to be rocking at 40. And the nearest fans will get to seeing the Manics live is a new in-concert video titled Leaving The 20th Century.
Bassist Nicky Wire - who performed at last year's T In The Park in a frock and garish make-up - added to the speculation. He said: "I just want to get the album out of the way so we can do something else."
