Title: We're Not About To Break Up
Publication: Daily Mirror
Date: Wednesday 7th July 1999

Welsh super group Manic Street Preachers were sticking to the same tune yesterday - they're not splitting up.

The trio failed to show at a 50,000-capacity concert in Belgium on Sunday.

The Blackwood boys were set to join R.E.M, Bryan Adams and Texas at the Werchter Festival but pulled out just hours before the show.

A spokesman claimed ill health was the reason.

A backstage source told The Mirror everyone at the concert was baffled why the group didn't show for the three-day festival.

But then it was claimed the chart-toppers were in a hotel brawl and one band member stormed off in a huff and caught the first Eurostar to London.

"They had been drinking and got into a fight at their hotel," said a music reporter at the gig.

"One stormed off and the other two decided they couldn't play, pulled out, and also got the train home.

"There were a lot of disappointed fans - no one could understand what had happened.

"Some had turned up just to see them and were left demanding refunds."

Fans at the festival were told on Sunday morning that the band, who released their new single Tsunami this week, had pulled out for "personal reasons."

But last night, band spokeswoman Karen Auerbach dismissed the claims of a hotel bust-up in Brussels as "absolute rubbish."

"James Dean Bradfield strained his voice at a festival in Denmark before Werchter," she said.

"Because they felt they were not playing at their best they took the decision not to go on. They definitely haven't split and will be playing at T in the Park Scotland this Sunday.
