Manic Street Preachers are to release a new single called 'Masses Against The Classes' in October, according to bass player Nicky Wire.

The band, who headlined Glastonbury Festival's Pyramid Stage last Saturday (June 26) recorded the song at Rockfield Studio in South Wales.

Wire described the song as "a return to our 'You Love Us' days, which would mean a less MOR and more punky sound, and said that it would be unveiled at V99.

He also told Radio 1's Jo Whiley the band hadn't been paid enough for playing Glastonbury, despite rumours they were paid £100,000, and they were playing T In The Park and V99 because "that's where the money is."

The band also came in for criticism last weekend for taking their own toilets to the festival, which were marked 'For use by the Manic Street Preachers only'.

It's not known yet if the pop star Portaloos will travel with them on the rest of their festival jaunts this summer.
