Nobody brings antagonism to festivals like the Manics; telling the crowd at Glastonbury in 1994 that "they should build a bypass over this shithole" still makes us laugh till our throat bleeds. Here's bassist Nicky Wire's guide to how to fuck shit up at V...

MARE SURE YOU LOOK FUCKING BRILLIANT
"I had a good outfit at V in '99 - leopard-print socks, a miniskirt and a black T-shirt with a pink sash. I had plans for Glastonbury, but it was such a fucking sea of mud I just wore what I had on. I've got a few options for V though. They're feminine, that's all Ill say."

AVOID SNOW PATROL
"There's something utterly shit and deplorable about them. It's a desperate form of music; the endless repeated lines over and over, the same drab fucking little thing. That last Killers record is fucking dreadful too. That band are totally morally bankrupt"

REMEMBER RICHEY
"It'd be great to have Richey at these festivals. He would have bestridden this country with intelligence, wit and candour. Even if he didn't play a note it would be great to have him looking statuesque and beautiful, writing poetry onstage."

DON'T GO BACKSTAGE
"The odd time I dip my toes backstage the reassuring thing is that no-one knows who the fuck I am. I'm proud that everyone looks at me like I'm an alien. Those people are just vacant, imbecilic empty vessels and I pity them."

UPSET THE CROWD
"Sometimes I'm a total idiot and speak rubbish onstage - the Glastonbury thing was born out of us hating the world. And I verged on meltdown there again this year. It's like the Gazza moment in the 1990 World Cup, where Gary Lineker says 'get him off - I could see James doing that to me."
