Wild rockers the Manic Street Preachers angered bosses on Channel 4's The Word after their appearance. Now they have been warned by the top show: "You can't come on again unless you promise to behave."

The Preachers threw the programme into confusion when instead of playing the song they agreed they slipped in another, Repeat, with four letter words and insults to the Queen.

The editor Sebastian Scott said: "It was quite disgraceful. They were very unprofessional."

But the Preachers - at Number 26 in the charts with Love's Sweet Exile/Repeat hit back. Guitarist Richey Edwards blasted: "We wanted the programme to be fun."
