Band explain how they nearly had an 'Oscar moment' at the Shockwaves NME Awards
Manic Street Preachers have explained that they were overcome with emotion when they went to collect their Godlike Genius award at the Shockwaves NME Awards last night (February 28) at the IndigO2 venue in London.
Speaking in an exclusive NME video, the band went on to say that they wanted Public Enemy to take the award home next year.
"When I went up to get the award I nearly had an Oscar moment," said singer/guitarist James Dean Bradfield. "I felt quite emotional. Which is strange for a horrible fucking cynic like me. It means a lot to us."
Bassist Nicky Wire called for the aforementioned rap outfit to be honoured next year. "Public Enemy - get Chuck D to get that because I think he's a true inspiration. Best rapper ever," he said.
