Title: "The Manics Are Like A Drug"
Publication: 78s
Date: Tuesday 1st May 2007
Writer: Silvan Gertsch

Richey James Edwards, former guitarist of Manic Street Preachers, has been missing for twelve years. With their new album Sending Away the Tigers the band around singer James Dean Bradfield rummages in the past'

You have not talked about the disappearance of your guitarist for a long time...
Bradfield:...It's okay, go ahead!

How did you remember Richey?
I remember him as a much more interesting person than he is now portrayed. It is sometimes frustrating to see how people place it as an icon and how they view it as perfect. He was a very difficult person. But he could never lie. And he could never lie to the world. He always questioned himself. Therefore, he found no peace and no peace.

You'll also be working with Richey on your current single "Your Love Is Not Enough".
Nicky told me that he had a discussion in his head between him and Richey. He could not forget this dialogue. He tried to treat this discussion in the form of a text. Nicky said that it had provided a female and a male voice. And he did not let go of the idea of singing Nina Persson's (The Cardigans) the female part. It sounded like a crazy idea. But we asked Nina and she shocked us by her response.

Is the music for you a drug or a therapy?
It is both. When I was young, I was very often frustrated. I needed a valve to get rid of these frustrations. The music and being in a band, that was this valve for me. I also felt that I wanted to be physically busy. I wanted to feel the pain of doing something. And the music made me feel that. It was like a drug. This is probably also the best way to explain what it means to be at the Manics. It is for me like a drug and like a therapy.

Bradfield:...it's okay, go ahead!

Your Love Is Not Enough'.
