Time for the revival of the 8-track tape.

This - the original picture disc of the album is hardly famed for amazing audio quality

It's an utter waste to not spread this LP over 2 discs at some point. I'd pay again for a decent LP (I bought the 20th anniversary boxset) but I'm not buying this

One more vote against: picture disc is really a stupid product regarding audio quality, 128kb/s mp3 is an audiophile heaven compared to PD

It's RSD, they're not bought to be played, they're bought to be put on eBay under "rare, mint and unplayed".

If you want the best quality, you buy the CD that's already available.

Actually, sound quality for picture discs has increased greatly in the last 20 years, so I'd be down for getting this no problem. Ex took our copy when I decided I was done. (still haven't filed for divorce, so...)

I don't really get audiophilia to be honest. Yeah I can tell the difference sometimes from one format another but it's a very negligible one. Not like I've got the best equipment going either, I listen to my vinyl on summat like this:

Wonder if anyone's done an experiment like that.. blindfolded people and made em listen to a vinyl, cassette, cd, MP3, minidisc with this player, that stereo etc and see if they can tell us which is which. Think that could be quite interesting. Apart from the crackling which I think adds a certain charm, I'm sure most people would struggle with that.

Thinking about remastering too, again, sometimes there is a noticeable difference, sharper, louder etc but... if you're gonna have stuff remastered that's full of distortion like Velvet Underground or Jesus And Mary Chain and listen to it on an iPod with some crap earphones whilst walking down a noisy road, what's the point?

CD sounds better than vinyl. That's what we've decided this year.

http://diffuser.fm/do-cds-actually-s...er-than-vinyl/

It's the vinyl 'experience' that's better, i.e. looking at the larger artwork while wallowing in a sense of elitism.

I'm sure there's a slight difference in the mastering of the Minidisc albums that nobody ever bothered to pay any attention to. In addition, the minidisc version of The Holy Bible doesn't have THAT apostrophe, which automatically makes it the best.

Minidiscs are in ATRAC compression at 292kbps, compared to a CD of 1411kbps. http://www.minidisc.org/aes_atrac.html explains how they achieved a better compression because frequencies often mask one another - so why have it there if you can't perceptually hear it? In a strange way I think that less is more.
Incidentally the text produced on the minidisc player does have the apostrophe.

Record Store Day is a pile of shit.

Within just a few years of it starting, the greedy majors couldn't help themselves but to ruin it for everyone.

There were quite a few articles last year explaining why, this is one of the better ones:

http://thequietus.com/articles/15031...ribution-vinyl

If you CBA reading it, it tells basically of how indie labels get effectively banned from pressing plants in the run up, because the majors get priority. Priority to produce re-issued rubbish, such as this HB picture disc. There's so many more exciting new things that could be made instead.

I realised it would be busy and I'd have to get there early and each shop only gets a limited quantity of each record and all that. I thought my local record shop (Flashbax, Crouch End) would be the best bet as it's small, a bit out of the way and wouldn't be too busy, not in central or Camden or somewhere music-y. I got there 10 minutes before it opened and could not believe the size of the queue. 60 people at least. I queued anyway just in case I was lucky. After 45 minutes queuing I got to the door of the shop and in the window there's a poster with a list of everything being released. The White Stripes single I was after was listed at £15. For a 7" single. So, even though I was skint at the time I thought, well I've queued this long now, I might as well get it. No chance. None left.
Oddly enough I was queuing outside the exact same record store that day - I must have been a little bit further forward than you as I remember pretty much everyone in front of me buying that single.

I wonder if it'll be the orignal side1/2 or the new side 1/2?
