I love the assumption that this is significantly different in the UK

1. Don't ever try to translate any of their interviews into your native language because there are thousands of interviews out there and also very few people will be interested in those translated interviews

2. Don't wait for the band after gigs in March/April 2014 because they will never turn up and leave you in the cold & deep misery for hours in foreign cities where you've never been to

3. Don't be jealous/envious over hardcore fans who live in the UK as you've got mislocated in the wrong place and the wrong year from the very beginning.

1. When someone emails you Gill Armstrong's email address and a funny poem about Richey, print or download them immediately, before your email service permanently loses all of your emails.

2. Do not shake hands with James in Philadelphia in 2009, because he has a virus which you will catch if you do, making you move a month later than you expected to, and your pet betta fish will die of cold a week before you can get out of the freezing house with the broken furnace.

3. This is the band of your life. You will learn many new things, meet some wonderful people, and have a few great adventures, all because of this band.

Really, I've been a fan for over 20 years and it that time could probably name on one hand the number of people who know anything about the Manics, it was better around 96 to 98, if I mention it now it's usually 'who', or 'are they still going'??

^ I think that was what they meant.

I think a lot of people at least my age know who they are though. When I went to America the first two english people I met liked the manics.

These are fantastic. Really made me smile. I just wish I had gone to national treasures O2 gig but mates wife was going through cancer treatment. Also, which I had been brave to tell 2 girls to shut the fcuk up during the recent Bournemouth gig when James was singing Rewind the Film. They were only interested in the big hits, the rest of the time they just shouted at one another.

1. Get into the band properly in 2007 when you start listening to them rather than a couple of years later - it probably won't do much for your already uncool reputation in school but you'll have a lot more fun.
2. Accept the offer of a ticket to the Manchester 2013 gig rather than go out with uni friends for your birthday - you'll have an awful night and will wish you went to the gig instead.
3. All the money, effort and time you will put into going to gigs/events is worth it because it makes you happy.

1. Don't bother with the MEN gig on the Lifeblood tour. In fact, don't bother with that trip to Manchester at all. Bad all round.

2. You will meet some truly amazing people because of this band, the most obvious being the person you will go on to buy a house with and fully intend to marry. You will also meet some not-so-nice people, who in the end aren't worth your time. Don't let that put you off the band/fandom; shit happens, you deal with it and move on.

3. Don't expect anything Nicky Wire says to end up being how it actually is, especially regarding how the band's next album will sound

When you're in the car home from that horrible counselling session and you hear that "not enough not enough not enough" song, go and buy it. Things feel right in that moment for a reason so don't wait another year or two to get into the band, they'll change your life and maybe you need that right now.

Not three pieces of advice cause I can't really think of any more, I just wish I'd got into them sooner than I did.

1 - that guy who sang "Old Red Eyes Is Back" on the Beautiful South Jools Holland special from 1996 you're now watching in early 2013 is definitely one worth looking further into...
2 - Don't let stories on their Wikipedia article about the numerous controversies of their earlier years put you off; the music's really good and you'll come to appreciate the band's strange past as time wears on...
3 - look into more than just a band's singles when first delving into their history. Some very good B-sides you're missing out on.

1. Don't believe when they say they're gonna split up. The Manics aren't the best at keeping promises.
2. If there is a song, or even an entire album you don't like at first listen, give it some time. One day you will mysteriously get back to it and just realise you fell in love.
3. Don't try to literally imitate James' singing, you may lose your voice.

Dont get mad every time the bad slag off Gold against the soul. Dont bother shouting for Patrick Bateman at every gig, they wont play it. Dont throw out your old manics fanzines/tshirts/magazines/gig tickets
