This was my favourite moment of the show:

Nicky Wire - listening intently to Poliça's 'Chain My Name' or bored stupid? You decide.

As far as I'm concerned he still has plenty of sex appeal, with or without the jackets I do miss the arm porn though, it has to be said.

Seem to remember the sound being a lot better on the Friday show than the Tuesday one when they appeared on it around the time of JFPL.

Still not keen on Anthem and it just seemed a bit laboured. Would have liked to see them start with Sullen and maybe saved Show Me the Wonder for the closing song. I'm guessing Rewind the Film with Richard Hawley will the other song on Friday.

Yeah seemed an odd choice. Missed SMTW so will have to watch on Friday I suppose...

I saw no hunger or desire in the performance. I think they're going through a midlife crisis.

Isn't that the point of the album? Could it not have been called 'This Is My Midlife Crisis'?

@lucyrosemusic: Can't get over this evening. Getting to sing with @Manics on @BBCLater. Something I'll never forgot, thanks for having me x

Help us, Lucy Rose. You're our only hope.

i've downloaded the fuck and here are some observations :

Show Me The Wonder

Sean Moore doesn't have as much as a "i can't be fucked with this" look.

Cillian Murphy was ace, channelling Chuck Berry, Coldplay, The Shadows, Nicky Wire and him out of Status Quo into one awesome dance routine. i particularly liked how he sang the song to himself right up to the point where it jogged his memory as to what bit to play next.

the lad on the trumpet or horn or whatever kept giving a cheeky wink to someone in the audience.

James seemed to wait for the camera to be mostly off him before doing that thing he does on one foot.

Interview

they did not use the limited time to shit on Lifeblood = progress

there's a 6 page spread in NME waiting to happen over Cillian Murphy's confession that "one of his few failures" was O Level German.

the look on James' face at the end of the interview, as Jools was walking away, was very similar to the look that Robert De Niro had on his face in GoodFellas when he was sat at a bar, listening to Cream's Sunshine Of Your Love, contemplating stabbing someone through the neck with a screwdriver.

where was Sean? i mean, did they just leave him tied to the drums, or did someone take him for a walk so he could have a quick smoke at least?

Anthem For A Lost Cause

Cillian Murphy's channelling strictly limited to The Shadows, with maybe a hint of Dave Hill out of Slade.

Cillian Murphy's newfound love of the internet sees Star Wars on his jacket?

Sean's drums blue features were distinctly more pronounced, highlighting the tone of the song. well done that lighting technician

it's not a very long song, is it? James could not do much but sing and play guitar but he did sort of wave his guitar about a bit.

it wasn't quite as bad as some observers here have suggested, but far be it from me to argue.

The documentary is Close Up that was originally shown in 1998 on the release of Truth. Wasn't bad

Classic crap Jools interview there, that's why I normally iPlayer later, so I can skip the interview, jazz and country. But I watched for Nicky and James, and all I took from it was some giggling about umlauts which is purely cos me and some friends have an obscene injoke about Carol Vorderman and umlauts.

Jake Bugg - not as bad as I thought he'd be from his truly obnoxious interviews, but is it just me or is he just Bromheads Jacket/Little Man Tate/Milburn/any of a thousand other sub-Arctic Monkeys bands which NME tried to make us care about in 2005/6?

VV Brown - never been that arsed about her, but the new album is some mean, lean electro-pop and I think I might be getting it. Kind of what I thought Light Asylum would sound like from their reviews when they were just noisy nonsense.

Polica - I love Polica and won't hear a word against them. Nicky is clearly captivated and watching intently.

my thoughts, about halfway through, are that The Shining didn't really need a sequel, and i think this began life as another story that suggested it might link in to The Shining.

as it turns out, a really good story and a very good link.

mindful that it might go to shit, so far i have to say it's up there as one of the best King books i have read.

erm, i read a bit after watching Later, lest i be accused of going off topic
