It could be a right old conundrum if Blur ever want to release any new material.

EPs however - now that's something where I think your comment applies, especially for a band steeped in tradition as the Manics.

5/6 tracks or so; all offcuts from the album, maybe an alternative version of a track or two from the sessions, a remix, a live track, whatever. nice packaging, physical 10" or 12" and CD available direct from the band store; £7-8 but no more, digital available through the usual outlets.

they've done a sprinkling of EPs in the past, why not go down that route for fans willing to buy?
‘Back in the day’ of course, the singles *were* basically EPs - thinking Roses In The Hospital/Live Becoming A Landslide/ADFL/There By The Grace of God - certainly sufficient material on each to qualify.

I’m not a fan of demo versions/live recordings/too many remixes tbh - I still think a b-side/EP tracklisting can be an artform and MSP mastered that art in the past. Seeing the ‘bonus material’ on the album is again ‘demo versions’ made my heart sink a little; demos are the sketchbook, the trial runs, the practise laps. Lined up next to the fully arranged, realised & produced album versions, I don’t get what value they bring. When it comes to a new album, I care about the product but not so much the process.

That said, I still ordered the Ltd Edition ‘book’ CD of the new album; though mostly because my corresponding’book’ copy of ‘Journal’ needs company on the bookshelf.

According to that website, they've played it twice, on the 14th and the 17th. And looking at the times it was Lauren Laverne and Shaun Keaveny. Tumbleweeds since then.

Oh, this is going to really do something now. More confident (knew the record is going to be good) that even if it gets a response of "Ugh. Old Manics", it's being given the maximum priority to regular radio listeners who probably only bought reduced to £3 FD. If bought any albums at all.

Tbh I don't pay attention to any of that ..barely listen to the radio anymore
Nice to get a new version of bright eyes even if I can only listen to it for a month

Have a friend who likes the manics but doesn't much like recent albums - likes Orwellian..progress!

"In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it."

In Socialist New Zealand where the media IS the voice of the government, this quote is so apt

I also know someone who gave up on the Manics in the 90s, but has somehow really got into Orwellian and is looking forward to the album.

Interesting stuff about perspectives on singles. I think some people might not be aware how lucky we are to have been getting physical singles right up to 2010 and digital singles with b-sides (+ a remix 12") since then. The singles market plummeted around 2006-2007. Other than a couple of oddities - Pet Shop Boys being a notable example - the format simply doesn't exist any more, unless you're a pop artist getting dance mixes, or a band on a small DIY label who do 7"s. If a track gets a music video, it's absolutely a single. If it gets a standalone release on streaming services, it's a single. If it gets pushed to radio, it's a single. That's about as far as it goes now.

I’m not sure about the stuff/location of it at the end (would love to know too if anyone else recognises it), but I think the head sculpture is this:
