20/10/12 - Culture, Alienation, Boredom and Despair - extended cut cinema screening

This was mentioned weeks ago somewhere on here, I think, but whatever, it's not like the place is inundated with new threads.

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/showbiz...1466-32004055/

Not even getting the full documentary in the GT shoebox and the exclusive content is only going to be shown once. I'm sure there's a perfectly valid explanation behind that decision which benefits all parties.

I'm going to SWN on the Saturday, but I kind of want to see bands so doubt I'll bother with this. It's also an extra £2 on top of the price of the wristband already.

I see on their website that you can go for £6 and the proceeds go to a worthy cause. I'm not sure what demand will be like, neither screen at Chapter is exactly huge.

sooooo, let me make sure i have read this right. they have taken the time, trouble and imagination to make a documentary to go with the 20th anniversary of GT, have promptly edited/censored it and have decided to show the "uncut" version once and once only on a small screen cinema in Wales?

the skill and prowess Nicky Wires shows off for this "mass communication" business is fucking breathtaking.

So to guarantee a ticket you need to cough up £37 (£35 Saturday wristband, plus £2 top up) and you need to be at the box office in Cardiff on Thursday, and back in Cardiff on Saturday...

Win a 4-day wristband here http://swnfest.com/win-tickets-to-sw...e-this-survey/ if anyone is interested.

I imagine this will surface for general consumption at some point.

Witholding it now only creates more demand, right?

It'll be released alongside "No Manifesto" in 2050 on the eve the Manics release their latest album "Songs For Mass Constipation - sing-a-long songs for Angry Kids and Trendy Divs"

But you'll buy it in a year when they release it.

I don't think I will. Cutting off my nose to spite my face but fuck 'em. I'm sure it'll just be live stuff from youtube anyway.

Tbh I don't get the fuss. Yeah, it'd be nice to see, but that period is so well documented anyway, it's not going to show us anything new. And I'd imagine the interviews with the band are the bits that will be put on the DVD with the boxset, like the EMG special edition.

So what, we don't get to see some old footage. Like Franny says, you want old footage? Use the internet.

It's not the same because the film quality is almost always crap. Even my personal stash is about 65% poor quality footage. The prospect of seeing a high quality copy of the Band Explosion performance/interview is quite exciting for someone like myself who collects early MSP footage.

Having said that however, I'm not bothered by these "2 seconds added to the film. If you blink, you'll miss it" marketing ploys. I'd be surprised if there was anything significant added to this version.

I'm volunteering at Swn all weekend so I get a free wristband but I'll have to see if I can make time to go and see the film inbetween working, hopefully I can.

Yeah, I'm not saying it wouldn't be great to see, but I think we can all live without it, and let's see what comes out of the boxset DVD before we judge.
