And I see the "Black Holes For The Young" crowd didn't assemble in that Internet way that's got a specific name that's actually in a dictionary probably but I just can't remember what it's called?

I think this is my order of preference right now, judged by an imperfect, inconsistently applied intuitive combination of how much I like the song, how well I feel the vocal works with the song and how much I like the vocalists' voices. I've also chosen to be a bit looser with the track selection. I guess I'll vote for the available options in my top 5.

1. Thorunn Antonia (Don't Look Back)(JDB solo B-side)
2. Cate Le Bon (4 Lonely Roads)
3. Richard Hawley (Rewind The Film)
4. Georgia Ruth (Divine Youth)
5. ????? 'Secret Ninja Vocalist' ????? (The Last Time I Saw Paris)
6. Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Black Holes For The Young)
7. Nina Persson (Your Love Alone Is Not Enough)
8. Lucy Rose (This Sullen Welsh Heart)
9. Kylie Minogue (Some Kind of Bliss_ (side project)
10. Traci Lords (Little Baby Nothing)
11. Nina Hoss (Europa Geht Durch Mich)
12. Kylie Minogue I Don't Need Anyone (side project)
13. Shirley Bassey (The Girl From Tiger Bay) (side project)
14. Ian McCulloch (Some Kind of Nothingness)
15. Green Gartside (Between The Clock And The Bed)
16. KT Tunstall (Fairytale of New York) (Live acoustic duet cover with JDB, BBC Radio 2)
17. Gruff Rhys (Let Robeson Sing) (Live at the O2)
18. Charlotte Church (Your Love Alone Is Not Enough) (TV show performance)
19. Kylie Minogue (Little Baby Nothing)(Live)

I also find Ian Brown's 'rap' hilarious, though I really like his remix in general.

Right, who did I miss? There must be others.

Yeah, I noticed that too late.
Doesn't matter.

If I recall correctly, Cerys Matthews guested on a festival performance of Your Love Alone Is Not Enough.

I've been wondering for nine years who sang that part! It is lovely, as is the song - how that didn't make it onto 'The Great Western' but 'An English Gentleman' was a single I'll never know.

I've voted for Richard Hawley, partly because the song is so beautiful but also because he's the best singer of the guest vocalists. The two Ninas do a great job, as does McCulloch on a song I adore, but it's Hawley for me.

Poor 'Let Robeson Sing' though - both of the two worst guest vocals have to be Gruff Rhys' tone-deaf live version and Ian Brown's cringeworthy 'rapping' on his remix. On the plus side, the awesome original has Paul Robeson himself on it - surely another guest vocalist to add to the list

Don't forget Charlotte Church on her chat show - who was surprisingly good as I recall.

Nina Hoss should've sung the whole of "Europa..." in my opinion.

Good call gabo86!

Here it is, it was at the NME Shockwaves Awards 2008:

So satisfied to find out who sang on Don't Look Back you didn't make it to the bottom of my list?

I did actually consider that, but even with my very loose interpretation of 'Best Guest Vocalist' that might be stretching it, seeing as JDB is very much the guest to Tom Jones on that track (given it was a Tom Jones project where he worked with numerous singers). But hey, I guess you could say JDB as best guest vocalist if you like!

I suppose including Fairytale of New York in my list is a little tenuous as a manics song with a guest vocalist too, given it's a duet cover that was recorded on neutral ground… James played guitar and KT only played tambourine on that though!

If we're going to consider the Manics themselves as guest vocalists, there's probably quite a few… like the Boy Cried Wolf track No Comfort From Your Skin (featuring James and Nicky) and the recentish live performance of Therapy?'s Die Laughing with Andy Cairns that JDB did and some kind soul put on YouTube… amongst countless others of examples I'm sure.

Unfortunately only ten options are allowed on any poll, so I focused on guest vocalists in the core catalogue.

It'd be interesting to see a poll for the live stuff and side projects.

If you include the Tom Jones effort, we could also include that 808 State track James sang on. Actually, correct me if I'm wrong but did Nicky write lyrics to that too?
