So there's a Radio 2 80s covers cd being released.

Quote:
Disc: 1

3. Drive (The Cars) - The Script
4. If I Could Turn Back Time (Cher) - Christina Perri
5. Romeo & Juliet (Dire Straits) - Passenger
6. Lucky Star (Madonna) - Birdy
7. Arthur's Theme (The Best That I Can Do) (Christopher Cross) - Rumer
8. Every Day Is Like Sunday (The Smiths) - Chrissie Hynde

14. Islands In the Stream(Kenny Rodgers & Dolly Parton) - The Shires
15. Holding Back the Years (Simply Red) - Train
16. Need You Tonight (INXS) - Level 42
17. Should I Stay Or Should I Go (The Clash) - Kaiser Chiefs
18. Start Me Up (Rolling Stones) - Manic Street Preachers
Disc: 2
1. Lets Groove (Earth Wind & Fire) - Olly Murs
2. Bette Davis Eyes ( Kim Carnes) - Kylie Minogue
3. Lay Your Hands (Bon Jovi) - Dolly Parton Feat Richie Sambora
4. I Guess That's Why they Call It the Blues (Elton John) - James Blunt
5. Wicked Game (Chris Issak) - London Grammar
6. Teardrops (Womack & Womack) - Will Young
7. True Colours (Cyndi Lauper) - Shane Filan
8. Don't Talk To Me About Love (Altered Images) - Texas
9. Head Over Heels (Tears For Fears) - Millers Daughter
10. Don't Give Up (Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush) - The Pierces
11. Man In The Mirror( Michael Jackson) - Ward Thomas
12. The Whole of the Moon (The Waterboys) - Boyzone
13. Run To You (Bryan Adams) - Kian Egan
14. I Wanna Know What Love Is (Foreigner) - Jermaine Jackmon
15. Tell Her About It (Billy Joel) - Si Cranston
16. Wake Me Up Before You Go Go (Wham!) - Overtones
17. You're the Best Thing (The Style Council) - Lisa Stansfield
18. That's All (Genesis) - Gabrielle Aplin

Seems a strange 80s cover for them, thought they may have went for an early Simple Minds effort or something similar. Thoughts ?

Ha

'Start Me Up' is, at least, a Stones song I like so I'll be interested to hear it.

Warning: if you attempt to play the CD on a computer running Windows '95, it will never stop. Apparently.

"Caravan of Love (Isley Jasper Isley/ The Housemartins) - Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott "

You can't cover a song you covered in your old band!

That track listing looks absolutely horrendous. Who buys this kind of thing has always puzzled me.

I hoped they'd got their "Radio 2 phase" out of their system.

they always pick rubbish songs to cover. They could have done some good clash.

I like Start Me Up. I also note it's in open G-ish, JDB alternate tuning fans.

Wicked Game (Chris Issak) - London Grammar
They used up all the credibility on one track.

I could live with Lisa Stansfield doing You're the Best Thing and Chrissie Hynde singing Every Day is Like Sunday. The rest looks rough and Start Me Up is a novelty cover. Classic tune for the Stones but not a song that suits the Manics and there's so much else they could choose from. Surprised they haven't done a Spandau Ballet cover after the way Gary Kemp was swooning over them earlier in the week.
