"Cover my face with burka so unnatural
I am so ugly in your eyes
Or is that my vision is so clitoral
You use my holes to cleanse your souls
Paint my image as your icon of immaculation
Force the feminine into your crucifixion
An olive branch drowned in Thalidomide(?)
They said it would make the sickness go away
For the pope and for the imam
All I preach is deicide
Just like Mary Magdalene, I fucked Jesus
Just like Mary Magdalene, I have been deemed useless"

I wonder why Christian Voice chose to protest?

You should have seen the Guardian reading Hay Festival-goers faces when he read that out. Priceless.

I wonder how long I'd survive walking round with a t-shirt with the Jesus/Mary Magdalene line? Not exactly Dan Brown is it?

Poet, playwright, human rights activist and filmmaker Patrick Jones plus Dylan Thomas in America - a one man theatrical show performed by the actor Peter Read...

and London gig with band

Thursday 30-Jul-09
ROCKLANDS presents The 453 Club
PATRICK JONES + EDIT/SELECT + THE SHILLS
+ DJs THE HEARTBREAKERS + guests (Music + Word + Film + DJs)

7pm-11pm @ 229 Great Portland Street, London W1 –
£5 Entry Live music starts 8pm.
Zines / Usual Suspects etc cheap list via therocklands at yahoo dot com.
http://zapurl.me/zU = Facebook Event “229@453”

Patrick Jones
Acclaimed rock-beat poet with an impressive new album - Tongues For A
Stammering Time - on Anhrefn Records. It features contributions from
Billy Bragg (who he is touring with), James Dean Bradfield and his
brother Nicky Wire of Manic Street Preachers among a sterling line up
and is a soundtrack of twisted 21st century mirrored in beats. An
often quoted, inspiring playwright, author and film maker still not
afraid to be right on and full on, Patrick plays a words and music set
tonight.
http://www.myspace.com/patrickjoneswriter

Edit/Select
A young musical gang from art beat of London's lower east side - in
yer face newer wave pop charm and pro-active scene creation. Fresh out
of the traps, they're rather good" according to Xfm's John Kennedy and
have already played the legendary Astoria II in October. They find
themselves on the same bill as Motorhead, Happy Mondays etc at
Guilfest 2009 and in demand at creative gatherings like the 30,000
strong People's Day Festival. If it's about new music from promising
young upstarts Edit/Select have got big ideas and invite you to join
the campaign.
http://www.myspace.com/editselectband

The Shills
Youthful post-punkers from East Spanglier with the spiky British charm
of home grown classic faves. Formed through frustration with a lot of
what passes as new music, this is their escape. Making a definite
impression from the get go, their attitude and energy won a release on
anti-establishment label R*E*P*E*A*T. and propelled them to the
attention of sussed industry. The Shills have been taken under the
wing of Manic Street Preachers/Anthony & The Johnsons/Tricky producer,
Roger Fife, and with Globalnet Records behind them, they're ready for
the next step.
http://www.myspace.com/theshillsuk

The Heartbreakers, members of the Rock Chicks Institute who spin past,
present and future classics for bands, clubs and bashes from Pop Levi
and Classic Rock Magazine to being regular hosts of "the riotous
Rocklands scene" (Time Out)
http://www.myspace.com/theheartbreakersmusic

Rocklands? Not just the rebellious virtual republic (Deptford/New
Cross) over the river from Docklands, more a mix of new music,
grassroots anti-scene, visual art and punky co-operating attitude on
an otherworldly mission that has created films, festivals, industry
and media by inviting involvement. Thanks to the 229, it hits Central
London next to Great Portland Street tube, ten minutes walk from both
Camden and Oxford Circus.
It's also a few steps to the 453 bus which runs to South London every
15 minutes. A 24 hour ride home 30 seconds from the door! ...And we
liked the bar prices as Music Tourist Board was living la vida credit
crunch all this decade! In the Planet Water style, whoever is here
tonight will play a part in the next chapter. It just happens that
way. Share the Joy.
