This post might be better suited to the "controversial opinions" thread i dunno but here goes anyway...I reckon there's often a link between the quality of the lyrics and quality of the music in the Manics' work. When (Nicky's) lyrics are a bit naff it seems that musically the writing suffers too and when the words are decent James/Sean seem inspired to write better music. This is a bit of a generalisation and arguably totally subjective but I think it applies a lot of the time and can be seen on both an album and individual song basis. Any thoughts on this folks?

I think there is definitely a difference. If James gets a really stellar lyric from Nicky, he probably feels more duty bound to come up with some kick ass music.

I can't get into 'We Were Never Told', I mean it's a nice song and everything but that's about it.

It's no Red Sleeping Beauty but I loves it!

I've been at uni for a week now and I've met three other people who know and like the Manics! So they definitely still appeal to young people

Lucky! I met one person who knew of them but wasn't a fan and thought they'd split up and one person who 'likes one or two songs'.
Having said that, one of my 24 year old flat mates went to see them on the JFPL tour. He's obviously not a massive fan because he thought it was their newest album and he didn't realise I was a massive fan because he was explaining to me how they'd split it into two different sets and everything.

You're lucky! I was talking to somebody at College and they said they knew and really liked the Manics, I was really pleased but then she said 'Have you seen their appearance on the Young Ones?'
