Dora, that's exactly it! I've always been into new bands (seeing Temples this summer in Asbury Park). I will never be too old for that, I'll be representing the 30-something contingency there. I'm hoping to get over to the UK this fall or winter and catch some shows. Haven't been to England since 2004, so it would be a real thrill.
Very excited b/c I have the Simon Price book as well as "Futurology" on their way to me now.
Did anyone else read "Version of Reason" and find it extremely disappointing???

I couldn't finish it.. he was using magazine articles that i recognised in the text. It read like a school project

nailed to history - the story of the manic street preachers by martin power is meant to be quite good. It's sitting on my shelf waiting to be read

Ah I remember when Manics fever hit me hard. From 2007-2009. It was gloriouse. Hearing all those amazing records for the first time. It all began when I won a copy of send away the tigers off XFM. Id only sort of had a vague interest in them up till then, but over the next two or three years I turned into a full blown fan boy.

I read both of those but a while ago but I can't remember what I thought of them.

I envy all the stages of Manics fandom you've yet to experience. Watch out for denial (hello 2004-2006), it's a doozy, but it passes.

@hummingbird YES. I wrote a kinda scathing review on amazon.co.uk. Not really something I do often but I was almost offended by how weak that book was. (Not too hard to figure out which one's mine, ha.)

I dream manics, I think manics, I breathe manics. It's probably old hat to most people here, but for me it's new and wonderful and exciting. Tristesse was the first manics song I'd ever heard back in 1997 on an import compilation cd. It was before I'd heard EMG. Came along at a perfect time/place. I later got into them casually, but at the time, the pre-EMG stuff seemed too metal, and I was more into the likes of Pulp and Suede anyway. Plus, I was at a geographic disadvantage. But fast forward 20 years and I've fallen for this band hard, out of nowhere, like the teenager I was when I missed the boat the first time around.
Breathlessly rambling, I know.
Welcome aboard.

Yayyy...you're so lucky you got to see them live. I guess considering their last few albums aren't even on iTunes here, it's pretty unlikely they'd come back :-/
