Previewing new material live?

It has come up in the most recent interview, and was announced for the Times Square promotion: the Manics playing some of their yet unreleased songs live.

As I thought about it, I'm not sure when they ever did this. I'm not expecting them to do it on festival dates.

But WHEN have they done it? I only really know that they played songs from EMG at their gig supporting the Stone Roses in December 1995.

Anyone remember other instances? (I'm too lazy to go through all setlists on MSPpedia, apparently)

And "Empty Souls" and "Solitude Sometimes Is" were debuted at the Isle of Wight too.

Re This is my truth mention above, I remember hearing that Born A Girl was also played at that Reading before the album came out although cannot confirm that.

They also played Europa Geht Durch Mich and Futurology (and latterly Let's Go To War) on the second Rewind the Film tour a good while before Futurology came out.

They've said on a number of occasions that they don't really like doing it - presumably because there are so many songs to fill the set with that the fans know already and they get a much better response to than new ones no one has heard.

I'd personally be surprised if there are any new songs in this summer's sets - we'll see..

Born a girl was played at the same gig. Or might have been the Newport warm up gig.

Patrick Bateman's was demoed in 92 while being touted as a lead single.

Most of the holy Bible was played live months before release but not sure if that was post or pre recording. The album was released in October but they started playing material live in Bangkok in April I think.

Masses was previewed towards the end of festival season 1999. So the US tour, Glasto and T in the Park missed out, but it was played at V99 (I remember it well!) as well as the Millennium gig just before the release in 2000.

Also, the song 4Ever Delayed was played on the 2002 Hits tour, before seeing the light of day on Lipstick Traces a year later.

I don't see them playing any new stuff this summer. Unless they decided to do another one-off single, but it's clear from that NME interview it'll be a long while before there's a finished album, what with them having to build a studio first.

Didn't they preview Let's Go to War and a couple of other tracks from Futurology?
