Manics Live at Reading '94 video

Been a bit quiet around here for a while so this deserves its own thread.

Some kind soul has uploaded a more complete video of the Reading 94 show. Maybe others have seen it already, but I certainly haven't.

From the first note of Faster it is ABSOLUTELY. FUCKING. AMAZING.

Faster, PCP, and LTD stand out for me. Great to see Pennyroyal Tea as well.

I'm not kidding when I say it brought a tear to my eye. The energy is incredible.

Ah cool, I had this bad boy on VHS a while back.

My favorite thing about this is Jimmy's absolutely ferocious/metal way of singing La Tristessa. He even does a proper metal scream on the "I see liberals" bit haha.

Oh. My. God. On Despair now. How on fire is James?! Guess it's to do with Richey and feeling upset about his friend being in rehab etc but this performance is incredible.

Richey is powering them here no doubt. I'm pretty sure I catch James in La Tristesse singing the lines,

"I retreat in to self pity, it's not easy,
And they patronise his misery"

James is incredible here. So is Wire. The bass playing at the start of PCP is so mental it's amazing. Sean's drumming on first two tracks is so tight too. And Wire looks incredible here. Great stage presence with his legs up on the monitors. The band really are at their provocative best in this video. So much disdain for the crowd. Love it.

Yeah, listened again. You're bang on - didn't notice that at first. Totally proves what I already suspected - Richey's situation clearly at the forefront of his thoughts during this performance.

don't think i've ever really said this before, but Nicky's bass over the opening two songs is awesome - love the little surf licks he adds during the chorus of Faster.

shame the bulk of Penny Royalty and You Love Us were missed, looked like great versions; also, when the info box pops up, I see a mention of Lennon's Imagine - was this the set where they incorporated a segment of it into Repeat? if so, shame that's missing too, would love to hear a better quality version.

finally... tits out during She Is Suffering: ironic much?!

There are full versions online of Yes, Revol (tits out again), and You Love Us that cuts off at the end as Wire trashes the place. I had a VHS of them back in the day. Never knew that a fuller version of the gig existed. And yeah it does mention Imagine. A strange one. The video is from Spanish TV, the basic jist is the Reading video is a Manics special for the release of Tolerate. All very weird and extremely cool. I must have watched it 10+ times by now. Amazing performance.

Anyhow I'm rambling. Here are the other songs:

Yes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8qu_OqAYqc

Revol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-iirft-Dzo

Roses in the Hospital: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ivf4TQ-f1Gg

You Love Us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIopM1TPiyQ (Wire is amazing at end of this!)

On rewatch, just noticed, during From Despair To Where JDB screams, "WHERE DID YOU FUCKING GO?" Scarily prescient or what?
