Virginia State Epileptic Colony

I remember watching an interview on NME where James and Nicky said that Richey did research on the Virginia State Epileptic Colony, hence the song. Nicky said that "You'd understand if you researched it," or something. Does anyone have any links/info regarding the VSEC? Thanks!

Yes. Yes I do.

*remembers (vaguely) a badly hungover lecture at University some 14 years ago during Abnormal Psychology course about the practices that used to take place and the conditions that the 'patients' were kept in.*

Hang on, I'll drag out my notes - unless someone else can provide more succint info quicker. Seeing as my notes (most of which are written on the back of old envelopes / fag packets) are currently in the loft. And it's getting late. And I've had a few. And my left leg's in plaster. And I haven't got a ladder.

But if no-one else can find out anything, I'll rise to the challenge ...

I dunno, Eugenics seems a bit of a stereotypical Richey subject to me!

Definitely is. My Uni course wasn't in any way out of the ordinary and we always got plenty on reading lists and bibliographies for every topic covered so there is a wealth of info available - just maybe not online, yet. Try the Journals of Psychological Research or The British / American Psychological Societies ...

Anyone know what the sample is at around 2minutes 20seconds in the song? The dialogue sounds French..

If memory serves, James said it was from a Russian documentary one of them got for Christmas, but didn't divulge the title because of a lack of clearance.

I'm sure some pedantic soul will clarify.

Thank you!

"invisibleracoon" on twitter just sent me a link to this:

Глупость правителей смертельный недуг. Молчание миллионов свидетелей. Изгнание. Туда, в казённом тюремном костюме, только вдумайтесь в эти слова, на вечное поселение. - original in Russian
Stupidity of the rulers deadly disease. The silence of millions of witnesses. Exile. There, in a government prison suit, just think of those words in permanent exile. - English translation (thanks for Google translate)

EDIT: Also this entry into LiveJournal (In Russian) http://soloviewoff.livejournal.com/29897.html
If anyone knows of any more info on this documentary please let me know!
