I would use the following system: one track from every studio album (hard as hell but for the sake of my system it has to be done!) plus 6 wildcards = 15 killer tracks

- Motorcycle Emptiness
- Sleepflower
- ifwhiteamerica...
- Kevin Carter
- You Stole The Sun...
- Let Robeson Sing
- 1985
- I'm Just A Patsy
- Jackie Collins...
- Motown Junk
- The Masses...
- Umbrella (usually I won't pick covers but this one is too awesome!)
- A Design For Life
- Little Baby Nothing
- Marlon JD

If that doesn't cut it I don't know what will...

I don't really know anyone I'd like to take an interest in the Manics that doesn't already know of them already but I did make a playlist.
I wouldn't say it was the most perfect playlist as it sounds a bit samey at the start but I'm glad I've got an acoustic part that gets mellower.

Fear of Motion
UK Channel Boredom
Further Away
Hanging On
Stay Beautiful
Tennesse
Sleepflower
Archives of Pain
She is Suffering (Disc 2)
Jackie Collins Existential Time
Dead Martyrs
A Song For Departure
Indian Summer
Nobody Loved You
Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky
Love Torn Us Under
Facing Page; Top Left
Black Dog On My Shoulder
Motorcycle Emptiness
Roses In The Hospital
P.C.P
No Surface All Feeling

Yes, now that I hear what you're all saying, I do think I got a bit carried away with GT on mine, haha...maybe I'll scrap "Slash n' Burn", and I guess "You Love Us" is probably more important as a song than "Love's Sweet Exile" (though I did rather like that one before I even saw the video - honest! ). I'll take these thoughts into consideration, it'll be a bit before I do that 80MFL piece so I'll have time to ponder, though I'm sure a few crucial ones will have to be left off in the end, alas!

To be honest I'd base any compilation on the songs he liked at the gig, but without that knowledge, and avoiding anything on FD (as you say he knows them all well), i'd include things like;

Slash 'N' Burn
Born To End
Roses In The Hospital
Life Becoming A Landslide
Yes
Archives Of Pain
P.C.P.
Small Black Flowers
Interiors
No Surface All Feeling
Sepia
Black Dog On My Shoulder
Nobody Loved You
Found That Soul
Intravenous Agnostic
Freedom Of Speech
1985
A Song For Departure
Your Love Alone
Imperial Bodybags
Peeled Apples
Marlon J.D.

Here's a challenge for everyone: I have a friend who is a big Oasis fan, and he asked me for a couple of Manics songs to check out. I don't really listen to Oasis too much; which Manics songs would appeal to him?

Everything Must Go, the album might be the best shot.

everyone's suggestions are awesome
as for the setlist of the toronto concert, i've already done that one i figured it would be a nice segway.

for the oasis fan i would go with the epic stuff first - a design for life, tolerate, and then move into JFPL stuff.

I'm bumping this thread up because I *think* I may have sorted out the intro compilation I was going to make for 80minutesforlife, I've tried to pick the important tracks and be as unbiased as possible about it.
---
1. Motown Junk
2. You Love Us
3. Motorcycle Emptiness
4. From Despair to Where
5. Roses in the Hospital
6. Yes
7. 4st 7lb
8. Faster
9. Judge Yr'self
10. A Design for Life
11. No Surface All Feeling
12. The Masses Against the Classes
13. If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next
14. You Stole the Sun From My Heart
15. Found That Soul
16. 1985
17. Your Love Alone is Not Enough
18. Peeled Apples
19. Jackie Collins Existential Question Time

Alternately, I could take out a THB track (since there are three) and have it so there are additional tracks from KYE (probably "Freedom of Speech Won't Feed My Children") and Lifeblood ("Cardiff Afterlife"), so then there'd be two tracks from each album except for SATT. Super-close to narrowing this down!

Give them Forever Delayed plus the single releases and focus tracks from JFPL. Done.

New Art Riot EP (just to hear them recording 99/9% live - and to hear how raw and see how they have come of age since then)

Any 3 tracks from Generation Terrorists.

Motown Junk and Possibly You Love Us (Heavenly)

Sleepflower and Roses In The Hospital.

Die In The Summertime, Archives of Pain, Faster and This Is Yesterday.

Design For Life, Enola Alone, No Surface All Feeling and No One Knows What It's Like To Be Me.

If You Tolerate This, Black Dog On My Shoulder, You're Tender and You're Tired, My Little Empire, Prologue To History, Montana/Autumn/78 and Black Holes For The Young.

Obviously Masses.

Found That Soul, Miss Europa Disco Dancer, Freedom Of Speech Wont Feed My Children maybe even Let Robeson Sing.

Judge Yr'self

Love Of Richard Nixon, Empty Souls and dropped at the last minute from release Song For Departure.

God Save The Manics maybe, Leviathan, The Instrumental.

Some Solo Stuff - Not Zeitgeist though.

Send Away The Tigers (whole Album) Vorticists, Welcome To The Deadzone, Love Letter To The Future, Boxes And Lists, Anorexic Rodin, Lady Lazarus.

Whole of JFPL (just about)

and whatever is happening in the future.
