Show last night was incredible!
Between the two acoustic numbers, James did a quick riff of "La Bamba", and then the crowd egged him on to do the song, to which he obliged, and the whole crowd started singing it. He commented how it was weird - as he was getting ready to do this whole introspective song, and all people want to do is dance. Then after Welsh Heart, he did a quick snippet of "The Everlasting" on acoustic, really belting out the words. And he lead into "You Love Us" by playing his own sarcastic version of GnR's Paradise City. My only criticism would be that the guitar kinda drowned out the drums in some parts, and really drowned out the bass in many parts. |

I agree, it was phenomenal! So many highlights, here are a few:
The excellence of the live rendition of "Intense Humming of Evil". James and Nicky ended by facing Sean. Just resonated so much, very emotional. Sullen Welsh heart. Just when I thought I had James's voice and cadence down, he sang the most achingly beautiful song that made me want to see all their stuff live. Everyone on the balcony reacting so viscerally to "Motorcycle Emptiness" - and superb dancing to go with it! Nicky reminiscing about the peak of their 1992 tour in LA - with about 18 audience members. Outside at the end of the show, bloke stopping cars to tell them how he felt about the Manics. Admittedly somewhat inebriated, he just kept saying "Manics, Manics, I love the Manics" in a way that I completely identified with. I should have gone over and joined in. What a show, really. Anyone feel the 3.9 magnitude aftershock from the show at 4am? I was still awake, couldn't get to sleep. |

Great show in LA. I managed to get the boys to sign a few albums afterwards. In the crowd confusion, James ended up signing my THB twice without realizing it. Ha ha ha.

I have to say that I liked the live version of Walk Me To The Bridge that they played here WAY better than the album version, with James using his guitar for the keyboard parts. Sure, it wouldn't work as well within the context of the album, but the chorus sounds so much better with the power of his guitar behind it rather than the keys.
