It's possibly an overreaction but that sound in the chorus (is it a slide guitar or accordion?) is awful. Feels similar to The Second Great Depression where that chugging guitar sound just grates on me.
It could eventually grow on me though. For years I considered ily to be their most insipid song but the chorus of that is probably one of my favourite Lifeblood moments now. Perhaps Fragments will click in the same way one day!

Not one of my favourites on Lifeblood, but don't mind it. Always thought the version accompanied by the Patrick Jones video is better than the one on the album.

Beautiful song. Works brilliantly on the album for me.

Lifeblood’s a strange album for me. While I love everything about the aesthetics of it (the cover, the white guitar straps etc.,) I didn’t really enjoy a lot of the band’s musical direction at the time. That said, 7 of Lifeblood’s tracks are among my favourite Manics songs, with 1985 and SSI probably in the top 10. There are 4 tracks I have never managed to particularly enjoy, and Fragments is one of them. The verse isn’t bad, but the chorus is so anti-climactic for me. It almost sounds like it’s from a different song.
