Small Black Flowers & Facing Page:Top Left
Has anyone ever noticed the similarities between the two? Both have Richey only lyrics, and both have a similar sound (Harp, acoustic guitar and James's voice).

Well my only take on this is that richey loved how small black flowers turned out (without the harp though) so I imagine james wanted to repeat what the same tone on at least one track of JPFL

It's not a popular opinion, but JFPL would have probably been even better and even more effective if all the songs on the album would be more like Facing Page. The three calm songs are my favourites.

On that note, I love the itunes (acoustic) version of JFPL-track, the vocals are a lot more felt.


Anyhow, I thought the similarity was meant to be seen as intentional. Before the album was released the band announced there would be "Acoustic tracks like Small Black Flowers."

I like the mix of louder and quieter songs on the album. But yeah, Facing Page obviously is a nod to Small Black Flowers without the songs sounding overly similar. To me anyway!

Yeah both are very lush, very Jamesy and very fragile lyrically

I agree, very similar. although on the whole I like a mix of accoustic and loud songs on this album.
