If you have access to iplayer?

We had a discussion about it too but the set list is in there if you want to watch it unspoiled.

See also - any interview Nicky has ever given ahead of every single tour they've ever done. I'd absolutely love to see it, but c'mon.

So what press can we look forward to? Imagine the NHS shows will get a write up.
And a new (or is it refurbished?) Venue in Wales will be broken in by the band in a few months.
That'll probably get written up.

Time for me to rate each song on TUVL, after having listened to it more than 20 times.

Still snowing in Sapporo - 9/10... Almost epic opener and the accoustic guitar in the chorus is simply ace!

Orwellian - 8.5/10 ...Much stronger in the context of this album than it was as a stand alone track.

The secret he had missed - 7.5/10 ...Very nice duet with Julia Cummings, but the chorus is not on the level of the rest.

Quest for ancient colour - 8.5/10 ...The poppiest track on the album, but the lyrics give it an unexpected and very nice twist.

Don't let the night divide us - 9/10 ... Another highlight of the album. The chorus and JDB's solo are beauties!

Diapause - 8.5/10 ... The darkest moment of the album, slightly overproduced in my opinion, but still a wonderful tune.

Complicated Illusions - 8.5/10 ... Who else than the Manics would enjoy and dare to write a song about Derrida? Maybe Kate Bush? But that's about it.

Into the waves of love - 9/10 ...One of my favorites. Together with "Afterendig" it spawns the nicest set of lyrics on the album. ...And that "Great gig in the sky"-moment. Almost a dialogue with an apparently absent god...

Blank Diary Entry - 8.5/10 ... Another nice duet. Lanegan is a bit theatralic, as usual, but it works out pretty well with James. And then Ennio Morricone seems to join the two of them in the chorus.

Happy Bored Alone - 9/10 ..."I was praying to a godless sky for the people still screaming inside...". Great couplet in a great, classic sounding Manic song.

Afterending - 10/10 ... The absolute highlight on TUVL! In my opinion it is one of the best tunes ever they'd managed to write and record, as strong as "Cardiff Afterlife", just to make an example. The lyrics, the irony that lies within the melody, the production, the fade out with that dragging, almost tired bass line... Perfect! It just draws a grin on my face! :-)

The Ultra Vivid Lament - 8.5-9/10 ...Not even one mediocre song on that record, in my opnion. A very pleasant listening all over!

We're at the point where the Manics could quite easily release a multi volume box set similar to how the Beatles did it with their superb Anthology series. I've been wishing for a Queen Anthology box for the last 20 years which was planned but ultimately shelved several times.

A Manics version may be slightly diluted by the presence of deluxe edition versions or reissues for nearly album by now but I'm sure they have enough alternative takes, live tracks, interviews and radio sessions to release for us to enjoy. I wonder if this is a possibilty after they get a Lifeblood reissue out but I'm probably just dreaming.

In fairness to the band, they normally bring out one rarity out of retirement per full tour... Born to End, Sorrow 16, Donkeys, Natwest, Condemned to Rock n Roll, Horses Under Starlight (and some I've inevitably forgotten) have appeared out of nowhere in recentish years.

Last three songs still my favourite part of the album. The subtle guitar runs are fantastic. The vocals are gorgeous. Lanegan's vocal is great counterpoint to Jimbo. All great stuff.

Has anyone else started singing Sweet Caroline whilst listening to Don't Let The Night Divide Us yet?

God dammit.

This is what one of the reviewers meant by "pop by numbers melody" I think, the verses in that song. I didn't realise it was yet another Manics cribbing of someone else

One of the songs reminds me of something but I'm trying not to think too hard what it is so that I don't spoil said song! lol!
