Normally I'd say Futurology did it better, but as far as soundtracks to Jobsearch goes, finished just in time for Emily.
Forgot how good this album was and how it matches the earlier darkening nights.

Couldn't agree more.

We've had a few Lifeblood appreciation threads over the years in here. They normally start up around October.

Still my 2nd or 3rd fav Manics album. Certainly my favourite Manics period in terms of where I was and what I was doing in my life at the time. I'd kill to go back to Winter 2004.

P.S. The Maida Vale session for the release of the album is still the best session they ever did. This is Yesterday solo and final chorus is amazing.

EDIT: Here is the link to the session. http://www.mediafire.com/file/75r9yc...2C+England.zip

Credit goes to the original poster. I'll find out who it is.

Would have been nice to get that Maida Vale session on a reissued anniversary edition.

Still my 3rd favourite Manics album, listened to my Japanese reissue again recently, beautiful.

Yep. To Repel Ghosts in particular sounds great at this time of the year and is one of my favourite album tracks.

Not sure about that!! I agree about the second half of the album and it might be sacrilege to some, but I find that if I skip Emily and Always / Never, it flows a lot better.

I only listened to Emily on a recent listen as I hadn't heard it for a while. But "Always/Never" is one of the albums stand outs for me. Should of been a single standard of greatness in fact.
If anything I blame Sony for not launching a rescue attempt on the album. If not singles, then a few album track promos would of got airplay and a bit more interest.
Probably.

Maybe. I think having 1985 as the lead off single would have helped ax well.

That would of worked so well! Maybe the company thought the Bowling For Soup's song with the same name would of been better.

Pretty icy where I am today, so time to crack out some Lifeblood at work.

Also, listening to the RiF trailer, can't help but hear a little Lifeblood in the sounds there as well...

But yes, definitely a winter album for me, and one full of nostalgia as 2004 was an amazing time in my life.
I posted this four years ago, at a time when my interest in the Manics was probably at its lowest ebb. I'm so glad things are so different now. The Manics are my favourite band in the world again, they've just done a gig which included a Lifeblood track, and they have a new album coming which sounds like it could be amazing (and yes a bit Lifebloodesque!)

So roll on Lifeblood season

Pair Lifeblood with Rφd by Kent for a perfect winter listen. Both are chilly albums with dark/distant electronics. Both were on heavy rotation in those snowy winters back at the start of the decade.

Yeah, always reminds me of winter. Got it as a Christmas present and spend the rest of Dec/Jan listening to it

I think both musically, and lyrically, it's their most "mature" work.

I know that phrase makes it sound boring, but to me it means that it ages well. All their albums are good to great, but this one kinda stands out, not as their best, but as one the seems to get better and better with age.
