Futurology sounds like Echo & The Bunnymen, not U2 or flipping Coldplay!

Copy from Play Direct still not arrived after being dispatched 14 days ago. Phoned up Real Groovy Records today after being told it would be in store. Still on order. Phone up Sony New Zealand. There has been a delay (staggered release) and not available in New Zealand until July 18th.

Ohh FFS! Sony NZ have always been rubbish at supporting/promoting the Manics and it continues.

Almost as bad as North America - well Canada. US is even worse with only an import available. The physical release was supposed to be available July 8th, but now is scheduled for July 15th. We did get the iTunes release late evening July 7th.

It sounds like Simple Minds. I can’t hear any Coldplay, Echo and the Bunnymen or U2 in there.

There's no Simple Minds record I can think of that springs to mind right now that reminds me of Futurology. It sounds like Echo & The Bunnymen's Stormy Weather in places to me!

How does a band like the Manics release something this special for their 12th album, has this ever happened before for a band/artist? Is this a first time event in music? Where a well known band who has already recorded classic albums and moved on to different styles and been through all those stages, then release something on this level?

I'm not overhyping it, it's not a perfect album, but it's such a great return to form.

To take the example of my two favourite bands: The Beatles released Let It Be as their 12th album and Queen released A Kind of Magic as their 12th LP. I'd say Futurology is probably as good as these two, but Let It Be/AKOM are far from being my favourite albums anyway

But seriously. Lou Reed's 12th album isn't my favourite, but some of the albums either side and later were excellent. Obviously musicians will never quite be as angry and energetic as their earlier material, but some can have a resurgence of greatness.

I hear the latest Black Sabbath album is really good, but I'm not a specialist on them, so I wouldn't know.

Well it passes the "Washing your hair in the bathroom whilst listening to it" test!
And fuck it, it's now my favourite Manics album. Above KYE. Even above Lifeblood!
That's right! I went there.
