The reason I actually took my iphone in with me is because I felt uneasy at leaving it in a cloakroom - stupid me!

After reading about people having stuck nicked on Thursday night I made sure I had the smallest bag possible on Friday (just my phone and a small amount of cash) which I wore across the front of me and held on to at all times. I've been to gigs before where I've had my phone in my back pocket so thanks for the warning or I could have been a victim! I still can't believe that sort of people exist, although I know they do...

I did notice there was a lot of people looking for stuff on the floor after the gig, and then filling in lost property forms. Some bunch of lads had found an oldish phone (a nokia IIRC) but nothing else. |

I'm glad I read this thread before I went to the gig last night. When I was having my bag searched, I said that there wasn't much in there as I'd heard that there had been pickpocketing the night before. The stupid bastard laughed cos he must have thought I was joking.
I really feel for those of you who had stuff nicked.

have you contacted your phone company? There was a hell of a bill on my phone by the time I went in this morning!

So sorry for everyone who had something stolen. The utter scumbags! Will make me extra cautious for Wolverhampton.

God, reading this thread is depressing. Sorry to those who had stuff nicked. I imagine it happens everywhere; it's an ideal environment for thieves when you think about it. I must have been very lucky back in 2004 at the MEN when the entire contents of my bag fell on the floor and I had to wait until the gig was over to find my stuff; everything was still there though thankfully. I always put my valuables in the zipped compartment of my bag and keep it in front of me, so it's between me and the barrier.

Next time i wont bring a bag, first time i ever did to a gig cause i thought i would want a camera (didn't use it), thought i would want my mp3 player (i came alone, headphones broke anyway) should have just took what money i needed in my wallet with train ticket and my phone as standard gig procedure for me states. Half the time it felt like my stuff was falling out.

I too am glad I checked this thread, but I'd always keep my valuables in my front pockets and I did have jeans with tight pockets. I thought about taking my Walkman too, but that would've meant something would been in a back pocket, so I didn't bother; really need to get a more up-to-date phone with mp3 playback so I don't need to bring an Mp3 player with me.
Kept my camera in my hand the whole time too. |

This is terrible. I heard some fracas re: a lost phone, but I feel so angry that people were actually nicking stuff... First time I've e'er heard of it at a gig, but why a gig that cost £27 odd quid to get in to?

its becoming a fairly big thing nowadays. i lost my phone at the Editors at Alexandra Palace early last year as did over a dozen people. no broken phone parts were found afterwards either. i tried ringing from my mates phone and it went straight to voicemail. just a few months previously there was alot of official warnings published in magazines by the Met police about pickpockets at that venue in particular.
my mate lost his phone at the Specials at Brixton Academy early this month, as did about a dozen people. only a single phone battery cover was found afterwards. when i tried to ring my mates phone, it went straight to voicemail. the odds of all these people just 'losing' their phones while moshing are probably quite low, especially as basically no phone wreckage was found and the phone goes stright to voicemail. im absolutely certain its pickpockets. its worth their while to get a few tickets for £25-30 each and steal phones and iPods. even second hand, they'd only need to steal a couple to justify the money spent on tickets, and lets face it, at a crowded gig where theres moshing it's idealand they're almost guaranteed to get enough stuff to exceed the money spent on tickets. but yeah, zips/buttons are a must-have for gig-goers nowadays. they make life much more difficult for pickpockets. even jean pockets (which are generally tighter than say, trackies or slacks) dont necessarily keep them out. mine were taken from my jeans front pockets which you'd think would be tight enough for me to notice someone reaching in, but i didnt notice until near the end. The worst thing would be putting your money and train ticket in your wallet and losing that, i had no money left missed my last train and my ticket didn't work at the barriers so i jumped it at london this morning and blagged my way through at the other end. Not easy, i must say but satisfying to just get home after all that time.

The people who will go in and nick stuff are generally the touts outside...they will buy spare tickets off people for a tenner each..sell them on for big profit..keep one back to gain admittance and come out with a grands worth of stuff plus profit from the tickets...
Not ALL touts do this just the scruffy jakey, alki's. Be warned. Last edited by kingsize; 01-06-2009 at 12:14. Reason: spelling! |
