Amazon doesn't 'do' MP3's in Canada nor are MP3's available outside geographical locations...can't even buy them from Amazon US (and they wonder why so many resort to illegal downloads...the restrictions placed on purchasing MP3's is a joke, not just on Amazon, but virtually every where).

As for iTunes, again, it's geographically restricted and those of us in Canada and the US won't be able to download PFAYM from iTunes until the album is officially released over here (I'm hearing either November or early January likely depending on it's success across the pond).

TheGreatPretender, I haven't heard anything about a North American release of PFAYM. January is a dead zone musically, so it might do well. And if there is a spring 'tour', it'll work out nicely.

Of course, we also don't get access to Spotify.

I do understand the legalese of intellectual property but in the Web 2.0 world, geography is an old concept. It's really difficult to get your music 'out there' and find out that no one is actually getting it. The music industry needs to change its business model. Having an iTunes or Amazon (or insert other download site) account and a valid method of payment should give you world-wide access.

Restricting the selling of digital media when people can easily download it for free seems absurd to me personally.

As for copies of the album I bought the 2 disc and Vinyl versions today to go along with my signed copy from Play

I didn't slurp up the leak, the first time I heard the album in full was the Guardian/We7 stream.

1-disc signed
2-disc deluxe version
Memento Box + T-shirt
Vinyl

and I have the Japanese 1-disc on order (ticked '1 disc' in the poll too, because there isn't a separte entry for it)

Even if you don't like the album, there's a picture of James hugging a dog. Awww...

it is. the rationale is "protecting local markets" where the albums aren't released and what have you. and, of course, the good old arguments and debates about split of rights and roaylties.

however, it's been over 10 years now that record labels have been crying that illegal downloads are killing the music business. surely enough time to get to some agreement, chaps? i still don't know why a label or online store would give a flying fuck if it "damages the local markets" - if that's the case they why don't the labels fucking release the stuff in those markets, then?

it is, if anyone is of a mind to do so, possible to "gippo" the system. i could for instance open up a UK credit card with my old address, and you can buy iTunes voucers off ebay (particularly handy for the Japan only stuff on iTunes). i just refuse to "fiddle" to buy something that i should be able to do legitimatley.
