I'm not entirely sure it is Nina Hoss... Much better vocal delivery

She's an actress It sounds like her spoken voice, certainly from what I've heard in interviews anyway.

Mayakovsky was certainly a highlight of the sampler. Interest and excitement have peaked. So refreshing to not hear them tread the same ground.

I think that line was partly the reason for why that album seemed to 'disappear' off the map.

After hearing the Last Jet to Leave Moscow intro on the sampler, I can't help thinking that the old Question of Sport music is about to kick in at any second!

The last to feel alone
No luck in your tender bones

And I sing to myself
A civil war's within

The victories and failures
I daily lose and win

Money it just buys
A new way to disguise
A freedom you don't own anymore

Divine youth is lying in
A battered and a bruised skin
I wear but don't recognise

And I sing to myself
My civil wars within

The kids are growing old
In a digital haze

Is it evolution in the virtual age

And I sing to myself
My civil wars within

The victories and failures
I daily lose and win
Corrected.

Thanks albireo! I nearly put 'haze' as well!! I could swear it sounds like a '..ace' sound more than 'aze' … Welsh accents strike my ears again

Feel free to correct any of the others I posted (I guess you have the album?). I'd like to know what the last bit is in BTCATB especially, about the quick and the sand / sad (?) especially, and go perfectly or grow perfectly(?) I hear 'sand' and 'go', but I've seen 'sad' and 'grow' online.

"Hatred and failure
go perfectly together
Like the quick and the sand
Beautiful and damned
I live through these moments
again and again
repeated images of
enemies and friends"

I might do the rest later, don't have time right now.

My intitial reaction to the sampler on hearing Lets go to War, was eh, that doesn't sound as good as the live version. Then, on second play, it was. . . . hang on that sounds fucking amazing. It kicks the guitar heavy live version out of the water IMO. What a tune - and more than that it's like a musical billboard preaching THIS is what you young nippersnapper bands are supposed to be doing

As for the rest of the songs, I'm suitably impressed although hard to get a proper feel from the samples. Especially Europa Disco Dancer Mach Deux and Black Squares. Long live the Manics! (goes to drink more Kostritzer)
