Watched a bit of footage back. Certainly sounded a lot heavier on the day, drums and bass were pounding. Sean Moore is a fucking beast.

James will pass out if that happens! Speed was fine anyway, even if the intro was about 1bpm slower than normal. Sounded doomy as fuck on the day.

Thank Christ I said "speed was fine" and not "the same" then. It sounded good, hardly slowed down to a drag. Also, really!? I suppose a rare live track wouldn't be complete without a whinge.

But how fast did they used to play it?! Can we get an average from 10 1994 shows?

Almost as criminal as this slowdown from a few years ago:

Sounded good to me, didn't sound too slowed down. But then I didn't feel compelled to check as I was just enjoying it!

Not that I care about the band nowadays, but I checked out a bit of YouTube footage of this performance, for nostalgia.
It's quite sad. They're old men dressing in the uniforms of their youth; they've been a stadium-band for over 15 years now, and it shows - almost auto-pilot. James' voice is now totally lost; he's totally fucked it over the years (I remember seeing some footage about 5 years ago and noticing it declining - now it seems beyond repair). It's a shame. Really highlighted on the acoustic performance he did at Glasto in a tent - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPWcFacPzZ8 - range and power exhausted - hinted at, but never appears. New songs seem rubbish too. Shame JfPL seems to be the only worthwhile thing in the past decade of their career, and the rest is embarrassing dross. |

Just to add that James has been in this band for well over 25 years now and has had a powerful voice throughout. Age has not diluted its power for me but it is quite obvious his voice will change through age. It's inevitable. He STILL puts a lot of singers to shame.

I guess James has lost the great scream with time and smoking, but there are moments when he shines. The acoustic From Despair to Where on the last tour had excellent vocals at times.
