10 years ago tonight I was crying in my room because my mum wouyldn't let me go to the Manics' millenium show. She thought that at 16, I was too young. I wish now that I had just run away and gone anyway!

i was there, travelled up from manchester in full make-up/army gear & que'd all day at gate 7.
little did i know 10 years later i'd be living 10 mins from there and that the girl who stole my vodka would end up being my wife! im on the video a bit which is nice. in all honesty the gig wasn't the best for me, of course it was a landmark for the band in terms of size & homecoming etc but it was the same setlist i'd seen at festivals that summer & the lack of visuals for an arena that size was noticably cutting corners. plus this is what i heard when the band came onstage; jdb; hello caaaarrdifff!! burly welsh skinheads behind me; manics! maaaanics!! maaaarrrnnniiiicccss c'mooooon!! jdb; we are the manic street preachers etc.. bwsbm; what the fuck? that queer cunt is wearing a dress.... FUCK YOU,FUCK YOU, QUEER CUNT QUEER CUNT, what a fucking faggot... what are you looking at? me; *runs away* nice then the sump fell out of the engine of my lift on the way home so i spent the night shivering outside newport train station, still in full make-up and army fatigues. i didn't enjoy any of the support either, sfa did a 20 min version of mountain people that made me want to eat my own hand. christ i sound negative. i'd do it all again tho given the chance!

yup, ofcourse I would have 'looked after' you both.
my (then) boyfriend who was dressed as Nicky Wire, and I re-enacted LSE video in the queue, it was great. HAHA. I'm always sensible, me. |

10 years ago... I was at home as despite having more or less enough notice of the gig, nobody else wanted to go for a start and I'd spent all my savings on Christmas and travelling to met someone as I didn't want to spend the end of the 20th century without love...
She was going to the gig herself, but we'd only just met and didn't even have enough to go halves with me on tickets and accomodation. So I saw some of it on television but am afraid was drunk and pissed off even more I'd hardly any drink left. Was so pissed off I couldn't get in contact with her I went for an early night of pissed off at around 11. In bed I tried to sleep listening to "Shamel" by Gong (THAT'S the level of disappointment and fail I was feeling!) and the fireworks all went off during one of the more dopeyier melodies on the CD... So I got back up and she soon phoned me and everything was alright at one with the universe and I'll never have need to be unhappy again! Of course, we had split by the time KYE came out... |

i went (at 14, cos my parents let me) and queued outside gate 7 from about quaRTER TO four. By half five, i was dying for the toilet but couldn't leave the queue, cos i wasn't with anyone.
Saw two girls called layla and beth who were classic manics fans, but they disappeared once we got in, especially since i scarpered to a toilet. I have a very filthy moshed welsh flag somewhere still, plus the grey feather boa. no longer have the tiara. |
