Forever Delayed MSP Charity Covers Project

After all the renewed activity on FD lately surrounding the release of TUVL, it feels like as good a time as any to try and revive this project that was conceived by several forumites years ago but never actually got off the ground. A covers compilation created entirely by members of FD, seeing as how lots of us play instruments and also record. But the new twist is that it will be to raise money for charity!

Myself and Stu (tzb) are already working on a cover of “1985”. Matthew (Matt_PhoenixFactor) is cooking up a more rock oriented take on “This Sullen Welsh Heart”. So who’s going to be next?

Porco? Scott? TRACEY?!?!

The basic idea is that anyone and everyone can record their own interpretation of a Manics song and once we have at least 12 (but hopefully more) we can then decide as a community how we’d like to use the compilation to raise money. Whether it’s a charity that’s close to the band’s hearts or just one we all feel deserves the attention, we will organise a Bandcamp page and set about raising some coin.

So…who’s in?

I haven't an iota of musical talent, but if it gets to a point where it might need some funding to help things along, I'll chip in.

Can I do an acapella version? Strum bass line basic.
No studio or anything. Can't think which song.
Oh! I can sing engage with your shadow but... My vocal style is too slow and laid back which might prove tedious for overdubbing. But then I have got a BandLab thing I think.
So acapella. Will even Robert Wyatt scat singing of that riff. Yeah, yeah acapella Engage With Your Shadow with whispering menacingly in the chorus
Too late now, I'll do something about that tomorrow.

Working the logistics. At least have it for offer.
Hahahaha! Hide the track so you have to rewind it from the first track.
Getting word perfect.
Thd thd thd is rhythm of song and life in general.
Thadoobooshhh thadoobooshhh is my natural rhythm and timing.
So many musicians reject it. Nobody wants to work with it. You aren't the first to feel nervous.
Only other alternative is medley of bass lines on rusted stringe and even then they'll go wtf that not actual song ..
Sell my version as an interpretation.
Hey, I've an idea for it that if I post it you'll go "Especially don't do that!" as it's cheesy, and adding to actual lyrics
Could possibly break it as a track. Even for people who aren't on here.
If it's the "weakest" track I'm prepared to carry it so the rest of the contributions shine better.
People will openly hate me.
But hey man, engage with your shadow!

EDIT: Well at least it won't be the first attempt at it

Lorna’s Manics covers are always worth a listen. We should definitely try and get her to join the compilation in some capacity.

If all other attempts fail, that would be a good fall-back suggestion!

I think I know which song I'm doing now, still deciding how to do it though... electronic/synthy/piano or guitar. And whether to try 'singing' on it.

Also, I think there's every chance I will prefer Son of Stopped's EWYS to the original lol.
