This one really gets on my nerves. Firstly because i believe THB has in fact been beaten a fair few times now, also just because i think the people who said this would most certainly not have said it had Richey not vanished. It's fucking bullshit frankly.
I am gonna fucking say this because I genuinely believe it to be true but I think the Manics should have split up after THB if Richey had not dissapeared. I can't comprehend how shit the band may have become had they gone along with some of his ideas. -

Because they have a new album due out and they always "seem to be splitting up" with every new album.

I can see that explaining SATT but that was 2007.

Fantastic reasons one and all! Thankfully having withdrawn from human contact (And proud and more sane for doing so!) I've missed those reasons.

And file this one under "They've completely betrayed what Richey stood for, not that I used to be a fan or anything and yet still have an opinion on a band I don't even care about... honest!"

Imagine working for their PR company! Getting paid to say "No, they aren't splitting up" to every other phone call? I could do that!

In September 2001 German teenie bopper music TV channel VIVA reported in its teletext news sections that the Manics had played a gig somewhere and had seemed to be quite pissed off, and they also left the stage without having done an encore [!]. " Is this a sign they will soon split?" VIVA wondered... O_o

This surely wins the thread prize, as the exact opposite of this would probably make a more realistic reason that they might be splitting.

Aww I love that you imagine their PR company still gets phonecalls about them.

Something about Richey, something to do with their age, etc. etc.

I actually wrote a letter to VIVA teletext telling them that this was normal behaviour for the Manics. But they never replied to my letter, let alone publishing it in their letters from viewers section... I guess they just didn't care...
