Awesome song that was. Sounded great on Jools Holland.

Yep.

And that's why it's such a fucked up fact.

I like FLH, but twelve years after the Jools version... Eek.

They then release another album of big commercial songs and a greatest hits to remind people of just how great they are and generate more good publicity. This buys them the opportunity to do two more albums they might otherwise not been able to make - the acoustic album and the krautrock album, as well as to celebrate their least commercial album ever. 'Futurology' and the tour/re-release of 'THB' remind people of what a great band they are artistically, thus making them more credible than they've been in years. Then they tour/re-release EMG which gets them back into an arena tour for the first time since 2007 (I think) whilst also reminding people who might have lost sight of them after EMG how many great songs they have. On top of that they've recorded the Welsh Euros song which has gotten them massive publicity. And don't forget - Wire initially suggested they'd try to have some new songs ready for the 'EMG' tour, so it clearly wasn't supposed to be just about nostalgia, it's just that the band have been struggling with coming up with new songs that scuppered it.
Yes, this.

I don't think it'll end up being too long before new material surfaces. Two or three years isn't unusual for bands anyway. And they didn't even manage to take two years off last time, as RTF was released much earlier than expected.

So it looks like Faster Studios is going to be demolished in September according to Nicky in the Quietus interview. I wonder if that means that they will take longer to record and release something (if they manage to write anything before the end of the year). Guess they could always go into another studio, but that's not like them any more.

Late 17/early 18 at the earliest for new material I'd have thought.

What would've been the 10th anniversary in 2008 was when they were thinking "we're on top here lads, SATT is the future" and perhaps didn't think an anniversary was the right idea.
Isn't that the first album track since 2005, not counting James acoustic?

Why is it getting knocked down? Thought it was their home from home?

Due to the "urban crawl", according to this. They're trying to build another studio elsewhere. http://thequietus.com/articles/20332...ew-simon-price

This interview is fantastic by the way, and a long read. They're really being hard on themselves about what they do next, and how to follow Futurology.

Yep, that's exactly it. Such a shame really, I hope they can find a suitable building pretty quickly, I know how much they value working at their own studio.

Urban sprawl...yeah, that's thoroughly depressing isn't it. Cardiff is slowly turning into shopping centres and luxury apartments and removing any form of identity it had. See also the recent nick broomfield doc on cardiff coal exchange and the forced relocating of spillers: you'd think the council would want to celebrate these things but no. Cardiff council: not doing anything to disprove that councils are made up of myopic, immoral philistines.

edit: Oh, superb article though!

This is also hilarious...

Bradfield turns to me. “Now you can tell the fucking Twittersphere or [Manics fan site] Forever Delayed that we DO fucking sign them!” There's a laugh, and a twinkle. “Fucking moaning bastards...”
I know it's said in jest but they have to realise that this is where their audience lives now. Online generally i mean not FD, this place has become a ghost town.

I don't remember anyone ever querying whether they signed them or not!

Is Pricey a member here?
