The band often talk about over exposing themselves (that does sound rude!) and they have done that with the tours, the boxset and the Welsh Euro song. I was under the impression that after Futurology the band were going to remain firmly out of the limelight, but it really felt that after a year they just had to come back.

For me. I'd be happy for silence until a new album gets released. I still maintain that I would really like to see Nicky write a few articles on records that he really likes. Some more attempts on the Manics biography would please me. James can pop up here and there and Sean, well he can stay and tinker in the studio.

The Wales rugby team are touring New Zealand very soon, and with Euro happening there will be no work done then. Perhaps one more album towards early 2018.

I would counter with this: "You're Tender and You're Tired" got played at the Albert Hall, it's time for Tsunami to come back, YSMM seems kinda.. particularly relevant now, the whole second half of the album is awesome.

What would've been the 10th anniversary in 2008 was when they were thinking "we're on top here lads, SATT is the future" and perhaps didn't think an anniversary was the right idea.

One thing to consider is the fact Nicky doesn't seem particularly inspired by music lately which leads me to wonder if we'll hear anything as fresh as RTF or Futurology again. I don't want another SATT or PFAYM nor do I want a box ticking album. The most important thing is for the band to have something to say.

Well Liverpool got Tsunami on an acoustic with backing on keyboards from Nick. So the light hasn't completely gone out.

re: timt 20th anniversary tour, Nobody Loved You is a very special song to me and I would be extremely emotional hearing it live. By extremely emotional I mean more than usual.

Only Manics fans could see the band release two new albums inside a year and then accuse them of being nostalgia peddlers.

I do think a lot of fans miss the point of what they've been doing since 2007, when they've actually been very very clever. They release a straight-forward rock'n'strings album which takes them back into the top ten, and that buys them the opportunity to make their art project album with no singles. They then release another album of big commercial songs and a greatest hits to remind people of just how great they are and generate more good publicity. This buys them the opportunity to do two more albums they might otherwise not been able to make - the acoustic album and the krautrock album, as well as to celebrate their least commercial album ever. 'Futurology' and the tour/re-release of 'THB' remind people of what a great band they are artistically, thus making them more credible than they've been in years. Then they tour/re-release EMG which gets them back into an arena tour for the first time since 2007 (I think) whilst also reminding people who might have lost sight of them after EMG how many great songs they have. On top of that they've recorded the Welsh Euros song which has gotten them massive publicity. And don't forget - Wire initially suggested they'd try to have some new songs ready for the 'EMG' tour, so it clearly wasn't supposed to be just about nostalgia, it's just that the band have been struggling with coming up with new songs that scuppered it.

Personally I can't see them touring 'Truth' because the band don't like it that much and they'd lost the momentum by playing an album that has gone into (unfair) legend as being slow and boring. I'd like a re-issue though, especially if they finally release 'Anniversary To No-one' (or whatever it's called) as part of it.

Given what Wire has said about the new album, I'm not expecting it until the second half of 2017 at the earliest, maybe even 2018.

Also, people complaining about the feature-length documentary - it's a documentary about the Manics made by an award-winning director, a mark of their importance as a band. This is something to celebrate, people, surely?

I don't recall anyone complaining about a new documentary, but I wouldn't put it past them

What evidence do we have for the band not liking This is My Truth? I wonder if it's just that it's like a lot of Lifeblood, Rewind and Futurology - full of slowies, which you can only do so many of live.

Pretty much agree.

I would probably make an effort to see a TIMT 20 tour as so many tracks from that album have never (or very rarely) been played live. Even though it's not one of my favourite albums of theirs.

Ideally I would like to see a PPF-type tour with plenty of TIMT, KYE and Lifeblood chucked in, with a guitar-based album (just James singing) released in 2017 / 18.

Agreed. They're clever and they're in it for the really, really log run. And it's working too, their stature just grows, as a band they are almost peerless in creative longevity by now. They've done a ton of good for themselves lately, it's almost nasty how strategically sound they are.

i think there'll be a TIMT 20 box set in 2018, to complement the HB and EMG sets on fans' shelves - that way, their 5 year critical / commercial peak of 94-99ish will have been truly honoured and celebrated (or milked, depending on your viewpoint).

not fussed about a show or tour to mark the release - although You're Tender & You're Tired did get a few airings recently didn't it? maybe suggests they're toying with trying it out.

if it happens, i'd just like a good set of material for the box, similar to GT20 or EMG10 in terms of demo / work in progress stuff - not just the "here's all the bsides and remixes on CD 2" of the last two boxes.

in terms of new stuff, realistically in the run up to TIMT20, i reckon all we'll really see from them for the rest of the year and into 2017 is stuff like a random, unannounced cover on a Q cd, maybe another Dermot acoustic track on a BBC comp, that sort of thing.

ideally - pure fantasy coming into play here - we want Nicky to get so sick of today's scene that he snaps and drags the boys into the studio to bash out a supercharged, raw and reactionary thrasher of a record;

10 tracks max
sub-30 min run time - no track tips 2min 30sec in length
fully written and recorded in 1-2 weeks
self produced, one take tracks - no keys, no overdubs
no promotion, no label involvement, sold digitally for a fiver through the website
physical copies = CD-R in a slipcase, limited 10" vinyl

ideal outcome: faster / jackie collins for 30 minutes (probable outcome: underdogs for 30 minutes)

written off by the band within a month of release, buried and considered non-canon by all but the fanbase.

They've played Feels Like Heaven more times live than they've played A Song For A Departure.
