Request from another thread, lyrics from the Japanese deluxe edition:

Lors de mon dernier voyage เ Paris
Comme d'habitude la naus้e me repris
La puanteur de l'้chec autour de moi
Envahi par les spectres de l'้chec

La derniere fois que j'ai vu Paris
The last time I saw Paris

J'ai dans้ le tango เ Paris
Mais je me sentais imposteur et fataliste
Par mon exile inexprim้
Et mes promesses vou้es เ ๊tre rompues

La derniere fois que j'ai vu Paris
The last time I saw Paris

Je me suis promen้ dans Paris
Recherchant le boxeur et le gardien de but
J'aurais voulu leur poser des questions
Mais ils ้taient trop pris ces coureurs de jupons

La derniere fois que j'ai vu Paris
The last time I saw Paris

La derniere fois que j'ai vu Paris

I think this is one of the worst things they've done hands down.

Horses for courses, I love it…

TLTISP reminds me of the music in this Smirnoff ad ('The Apple Bite'):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aLpAVk5u3Y
Largely due to the fuzzy guitar I expect. I suppose I should post this in the influences thread.

Thanks for the lyrics, my High School french struggled with translating it as the words have nothing to do with finding a swimming pool so I called up google translate...

I'd say the verses (especially the first two) put Nicky back in the frame as writer

Melancholy Flower translated the lyrics on page 1 of this thread, better than Google, I guess (although I cannot know, I don't speak French).
And her transcription was quite correct as well.

From a completely non Manics source, I've just found out that there's already a 1940s film and a song with the same title.

There is a film from 1954 starring Liz Taylor called 'The Last Time I saw Paris. its worth a watch just to see Liz's youthful beauty.

I've done some googling, the song (not the same as the Manics one!) is from a 1941 film, but was also used in the Liz Taylor 1954 film which took its name from the song.

This is my favourite track at the moment. It's glorious. One of their best ever non-album tracks, and a song I can have on repeat for hours on end without tiring of it.

The image I have in my mind when I listen to it is 'Boulevard du Temple' by Louis Daguerre (1838), the earliest photograph to feature people, which you can see here (edit: from space, apparently):

I don't think the singer is Nina Hoss.

No, Nina Hoss is very unlikely to sing French with an English accent.

Imagine Hoss singing a version entirely in German.

Imagine.

That's one of my three wishes used up, there.
