Really surprised how many people are saying SATT, that's the one Manics album I'd never listen to. It turned me off them till Journal, and it normally gets plenty of hatred on here. Whereas Postcards got loads of love when it came out, and some tracks I really like, though the general bombast means I do rarely play it.

SATT for me. PFAYM is easily my least favourite Manics record, only Golden Platitudes and Don't Be Evil ever get played.

SATT has a great title track, YLAINE, and I actually really like I'm Just a Patsy, Rendition and Winterlovers. It's just a shame about Autumnsong.

SATT feels like one album where feels like shreds of two separate albums thrown together. It feels like one half is trying to be EMG and the other KYE and it flows with the grace of a beached whale.

That said, some of the songs sound excellent in isolation. Why 'All we make is entertainment' was not made into a lead single is beyond comprehension to me. It's got the hooks for morning radio listeners and the musical technicality for the indie stations. Instead we got 'it's not war' with the cringiest guitar solo in history, sounds like a dog howling while being neutered...

It's just the worst isn't it? I remember being forced to buy the single too, because it had Red Sleeping Beauty on it. Bastards.

It's one of those songs that makes me an embarrassed apologist. Friends who aren't fans hear something like that or INW on the radio, and wonder why I attend every tour. Find myself saying "Oh but they have some amazing stuff too!"

SATT had way more love when it came out, I thought Postcards got a lot of bashing relatively when it came out.

It followed (the mighty) Journal For Plague Lovers. It may have been doomed from the start a little bit, but it is pretty shit regardless of when it was released.

I like autumnsong. It makes me feel all warm and happy inside, and fills me with nostalga for doing my paper round in the rain listening endlessly to SATT.

So there!!

I wonder if they have it in them to just write 10 albums like that, and whether that would be better or worse.

I suppose if there was a gun pointed to my head and I was absolutely forced to listen to one of the two, I'd take being shot.

You should never bash your relatives.

I really don't like James' vocals on "Send Away The Tigers". They are far too shouty. Is shouty a word? The songs are bit too quiet, quiet, loud in their structure.
