Lady GaGa is the first new No 1 of 2010. Mega fail! Or are we trying for next weekend?

Well I've had messages off that Facebook page to buy it from Monday which would'nt make it be the new number one, unless they were relying on Joe's The Climb staying another week at No.1

Seriously guys, to get a #1 single it'd have to sell over 50k. Singles on average now to make the top 10 need roughly 20k. I think the chances of the Manics having a #1 or even a top 10 single once again have gone now unless they have a mega catchy hit song in the future.

I thought the point of this campaign was to make MATC the first number one of the decade because it was the first number one of the last decade. Am I missing something...?

Yeah, I'm confused now. Oh well, it's No 1 in my head!

Yes, with a bit more luck and better timing Your Love Alone would've been number 1.

Wasn't it originally propelled to no. 1 as a result of a campaign like this? Against Westlife or something...

Well, it was never going to be the first new No1 of 2010 if the campaign was urging people to download it from Jan 3, the day the first new chart of the year was announced!! Someone didn't think this through properly......

I've personally never understood the love some Manics fans have for this song. It's not even remotely interesting from any angle. Of all the great songs these guys have written and recorded, why does this one in particular always seem to stand out for some? I just don't get it!
Anyhoo, even though I personally wish there was a campaign involving a better example of how gifted they are as songwriters (yeah, I get why this movement even exists - make it #1 a decade after it was first #1 in Britain), I wish you guys the best of luck with this one. I honestly can't see it happening, but all the best to you in your attempt! |

Masses is the Manics rocking out, innit? That's why we love it so!

I think the fact that this was released just after coming off their most lightest and acoustic work to date made it slightly easier to connect with fans. Its still anthemic and rousing in parts whilst sporting a hefty chorus of layered guitars. Probably far more crossover interms of old and new Manics fans (at the time) then really thought.
