Isnt this a bit pointless if we've already had the first new number 1 of the year? that and it'll prbably only get to something like #358

There was no public campaign. Nobody cared about Westlife not getting to No.1 that week. They'd already had the first No.1 of the 21st century. Masses' achievement of being the first single to knock Westlife off the top spot in the year 2000 doesn't mean anything in a historical context to non-Manics fans. Joe McElderberry was the first no.1 of 2010. |

I've downloaded it, but only cos I'd be happy to see it reach any position in the top 100, basically.
I thought Lady Gaga was? |

Although to be fair, those probably were the only two lies.
Actually, NME still has its story on the original release up on its site. http://www.nme.com/news/manic-street-preachers/2431 "Despite the release being limited edition, it is still expected to chart." Yeah, Sony expected it to chart all right. Chart at No.1 on the back of their scaremongering amongst Manics fans like me who rushed to HMV to needlessly pre-order a copy on both formats weeks before release. That being said, I only wish they could successfully work that kind of thing for the Manics today. Poor old Rough Trade can't even shift 300 copies of an exclusive Manics album. (Unless the 300 number was a FILTHY LIE!) |

Quick change the campaign name to 'First Number 753 of the year' then it'll have been a success!
