If we're honest I wouldn't have had zero qualms about Richey staying in the shadows just scribbling lyrics while the actual musicians were on stage, but he was an official band member and he wanted to be there so therefore he did. Which is irrelevant anyway and doesn't really have anything to do with the an augmented sound sounding superior to a simplistic three-piece band when the vast majority of their compositions have more than a simple three-instrument backing.

When they did THB tour alot of the GATS songs sounded a bit lacklusture without the keyboard backings, so i guess if they did it as a 3 piece it would be a bit like that except i can't imagine it transferring very well to the 02. Unfortunately, the 02 requires a big sound so my bet is they'll stick to the current lineup or add even more musicians such as a string quartet.
If they were going to go out as a 3 piece they would've been playing a much smaller venue.

Visually they look so much better as a three piece. Or at least when on smaller stages / Tv shows. I thought they looked really cool on the Jo Whiley show tonight. JDB looks great with trimmed beard, a nice haircut, a sharp suit and a white Gibson Les Paul.
