However, Wiki counts Life Becoming a Landslide as an EP. So either that's being left out, they've made the same lazy mistake of using Wiki as I did (highly likely, let's be honest), or something else is getting left off out of spite. If it were me it would be Autumnsong.
Oh I was using this http://www.chartstats.com/artistinfo.php?id=372 which has them with 39 singles!

Actually the 34 album singles I mentioned were just all singles taken from the albums, not necessarily singles that made to top 40. And the compilation seems to be singles that made to top 40, including the non-album ones (Masses/TBTGOG/Suicide).

Y'know what, I think I'm going to do some research now.

EDIT:

Okay, I've been doing checking and indeed, there's 34 top 40 singles like DK said, and that's without counting PCP. So looks like something's going to be left out indeed. My guesses? Either Stay Beautiful (reached 40 so the lowest position eligible for this thing) or TBTGOG (reached 6 but previously available only on their first hits compilation and it's rare that compilation-only singles get included in following compilations). Which makes me a sad Flinty.

(if this post looks like it re-mentions a lot of the stuff you talked about, it's because I've been editing this like crazy and thus it's a bit incoherent).

Surely by their own basic P.C.P./Repeat-denying criteria, the album should be:

01. Stay Beautiful
02. Love's Sweet Exile
03. You Love Us
04. Slash 'N' Burn
05. Motorcycle Emptiness
06. Suicide Is Painless
07. Little Baby Nothing
08. From Despair To Where
09. La Tristesse Durera
10. Roses In The Hospital
11. Life Becoming A Landslide
12. Faster
13. Revol
14. She Is Suffering
15. A Design For Life
16. Everything Must Go
17. Kevin Carter

01. Australia
02. If YouTolerate This
03. The Everlasting
04. You Stole The Sun From My Heart
05. Tsunami
06. The Masses Against The Classes
07. Found That Soul
08. So Why So Sad
09. Ocean Spray
10. Let Robeson Sing
11. There By The Grace Of God
12. The Love Of Richard Nixon
13. Empty Souls
14. Your Love Alone Is Not Enough
15. Autumnsong
16. Indian Summer
17. It's Not War

= 34 tracks

Anyway, they should totally cheat and have Kevin Carter after SIS, follow it with EMG and finish the disc with ADFL.

One problem: the Q interview, taking from the OP, states that there's an "unbroken run of 33 Top 40 hits from Stay Beautiful to (Its Not War) Just The End Of Love". So there's 33 singles in the compilation and the new song would make up the 34th.

So something's going to disappear. Only the baffling thing is that if it's "an unbroken run" then what on earth are they not counting as a single. Landslide cause it was an EP?

This is confusing.

Maybe he just made a mistake and meant 34? Or maybe he's seen the light and denied Autumnsong's existence.

I don't really see why they're only realising singles that made the top 40. It's not a complete picture is it? They should have done a nice large anthology release with b-sides, etc, to show people how good their writing skills are instead of just the big known singles that are already on Forever Delayed mostly. I just hope they release a new DVD of some sorts.

Surely it would just be easier to release complete hq version of every song on a usb key, dispensing with all this cd crap...

I can just picture a scene where Sean points this out, and how at the first mention of USB a grimace of fear and confusion forms on Nicky's face. Like a deer caught in the headlights of the digital age.

Oh well, it wouldn't be the Manics without a spot of misguided legacy pissing would it? As frustrating as it is that they constantly make these wrongheaded decisions, it's part of the charm.

Don't really care about the album but I'd be very interested in the box set cos I've never really bought singles, had a vague notion of buying someone else's collection some day...

I really don't think the Manics, or Sony, actually have much idea about how to market the back catalogue. Sure, a 33 disc box set sounds fun, but there seems to be no coherence in anything. There must be oodles of leftover stuff - when will we see that? It wont be on this boxset. Why aren't the excellent Japanese 20th anniversary editions available everywhere? Sure, people will buy the singles box set, but it feels rather pointless, especially if it has loads of bits missing. Give us something that we really want for a fair price.... and bloody hell, will you reissue the US mix of GT as the UK mix is abysmal!

Instead of 1 new song, how about a brand new studio recording of New Art Riot?

Lol, one new song is kinda pointless if they make it a £100+ boxset.

Would'nt it be the lead off single for the album?
